Question about Browns versus Ravens History

So the Ravens were once the Browns. Now there is a new team that is the Browns. How does that go as far as team records, and stats? Do the Ravens still cary the Browns History? Or, are they a new team?

I think that the Browns have the history and the Ravens are more like the expansion team in that regard.

for example a list of retired numbers for the Browns has some, but the Ravens have none.

Hmmmm, but aren't the Ravens the former Browns? Isn't that their history? The new Browns are an expansion team. If I were an Old Browns team I'd be kinda miffed at the whole thing.

I think it's just part of the deal of them leaving.......they had to leave the Browns franchis in Cleveland.

Note, unlike other franchises who have moved (the Oilers come to mind).....they didn't take the nickname, colors or anything with them (the Titans were the Tennessee Oilers for at least a year). That divorce was not a happy one, and I think that Modell had to make certian concessions for it to go through.

When Modell moved the Browns, the agreement with the league was that he would leave the name, colors, records, and all history behind in Cleveland. The league agreed to his moving of the team, and promised Cleveland a new Browns team within, I believe, 5 years, and the Browns history would be continued. The Ravens started with only the players and staff left over from the Browns they once were. Once Matt Stover retires, the last link to Cleveland will be severed. Modell no longer owns the team.

Go to Baltimore sometime-that city is absolutely CRAZY for it's team. I'm moving there in 6 weeks-and I've been travelling back and forth between Orlando and Baltimore for a year and a half now. The Ravens RULE that entire region.

i can tell you why Modell moved to Baltimore. to win! Cleveland is the least talked about jinxed city in America! notice how they lost forEVer in cleveland, then 5 years later they win the superbowl in Baltimore.
