Its my understanding Minnesota is to receive the lesser of our 4th rd pick.So why not trade 2 of our 5th rounders for a 4th rd comp.pick which would give Miami their 4th rd #22 pick back and Minnesota the comp. pic?

It's a thought...a thought I hope Gase and the FO never entertain. Leave well enough alone...I'm still frowning about the Carroo trade that out us in that situation. I'll trade back...not up.

I'm never a fan of trading up in the draft. Never. The draft is a crap shoot on a lot of players. Give me 2 players to gamble on over just one any day. Looking at last year for LB, for example:

Pick 131 (4th round) was the 17th LB taken. Picks 160 and 169 (5th round) were the 18th and 19th. If you need a LB would you rather have the 18th and 19th best in the draft, or trade that chance to get the 17th best? All three probably have the same chance of success in the NFL!

It's probably a simplistic view, but you get the idea.

I'm for trading back also. Possibly moving back 11 spots from 22 to 33 with the Browns to get an extra second and/or third round pick. :linedance:

You lose picks by trading up and this team needs as many picks as possible. Lots of holes to fill. Also, the 5th round has been good to the Dolphins historically. Zach Thomas, Reshad Jones, Tony Lippett, Jay Ajayi, Bobby McCain, Nolan Carroll (who we should have kept), Chris Clemons...all 5th round picks. We've had more success with our 5th round picks than our 4th round picks...certainly better than our 2nd round picks under Ireland.

I'm not in favor of trading back in the 1st. Quality over quantity. Trade back in the 2nd or 3rd if you like but not in the 1st.

I like moving back, but dropping to 33 seems like a reach. Too far to move if FO sees some enticing players still available. Dropping, say, 3-4 spots seems more likely but the added pick would be low round. To be fair, if the team at 33 is REAL hungry, and if Miami sees no one remaining rated above, say 33, do the deal.

Worked out well for Atlanta when they traded up for Julio.

In 2011 and they're just now recovering from it lol. The coach that was there when they traded up is gone and Atlanta also had a lot more pieces to the puzzle when they made that trade.

By the way, how did trading up work out for the Redskins and Robert Griffin? Cleveland and Trent Richardson? Jacksonville and Justin Blackmon? Dallas Cowboys and Morris Claiborne? Long list of trade ups for busts.

Warning: I'm going to make numbers up. Seems to me, most drafts have 5 future PBs, 8 busts, and the remainders are starters. Predicting which player fits in which group is as much luck as proper evaluation. Thus, the success in moving up doesn't warrant BIG trades up. JMHO. Yeah, move from 22 to 20 (rarely), but expect success less than half the time. How many "experts" had Ryan Leaf as "can't miss?"

For all 7 rounds or just the 1st round? That would be a lot of starters.

Didn't Wannstedt move up 1 spot (22 to 21 or 21 to 20) and give up a 3rd to draft Vernon Carey? That was a dumb freakin trade...Minnesota I think was the team in front of us and they had no desire of drafting Carey but Wannstedt gave picks away like candy on Halloween.

No...that would have been Rick Spielman giving up a 4th to move from 20th to 19th

And of course, Dolphins for Dion Jordan.

I believe Wannstedt still had control of personnel at the time of the trade. Spielman wasn't given control until the year Wannstedt quit mid-season...when he traded for A.J. Feeley and Gordon the 4th string RB from the Rams we gave up a 3rd round pick for...because Ricky Williams quit.

Yeah, R1. My bad.

Bryan Cox was a fifth round pick as well, referring to an earlier post.
Don't forget about ol' Bryan.
