Add me to the camp of those who is excited to have Jennings aboard. Does anyone have any insight as to why Philbin, with his Green Bay history, didn't aggressively push for Jennings last year and even in this free agent period? It can just be the money?

Just the fact that he felt comfortable enough to add him to this young receiver room is good enough for me that it was an excellent signing.

Could be more evidence of ireland not working well with Philbin. Meanwhile, Hickey seems to be on same page with Philbin just from the guys we sign and even moreso, retain.

probably has to do with Ireland but also at the time they might have been looking for a deep threat from that previous horrendous year of WR group

last year money wise probably no Jennings... we were in isssues financially that we obviously fixed up. plus had WRs on our roster that were getting paid up and needed to put up (but really didnt)

Jennings is a solid vet to bring in... only one in FA as a WR that I wouldnt mind getting. i think he is a type that is coming in understanding his role and the fact we are working to develop our youth with our offense for our future. i think he will be solid in 2016, as well as working for our future for us!!! good player, good guy to have in here.

definitely didnt want a Crabtree or Britt type in

Read an interesting post by chris Kouffman (ckparrot) saying that Ross is so impressed by Tannenbaum he put him in control of everything. He says that Hickey has become more his assistant in which he mostly focuses on player evaluations and is an area he likes and is comfortable with.

Philbin has taken more or less a kind of demotion to off season moves. No longer even in the loop. Dolphin non interest because Philbin didn't like is no longer an issue and supposedly tell Philbin what he needs to know. I found it interesting that he noticed the fact that at Suh's arrival he posed for pictures with Tannenbaum and Ross and at the press conference was at the table with Ross, Hickey and Tannenbaum......No Philbin, he was in the front row with members of the press.....which at the time I remember finding unusual...

Jennings and stills are a better or at least as good as the Wallace hartline combo and cheaper

If this power arrangement is true, how can our players respect the head coach when the owner, GM and the top brass don't respect him? Does this mean a coaching change at the end of the season? What if we are 10-6 and make the playoffs, do we bring back a disrespected coach?

Philbin has the ultimate responsibility to getting the selected players ready and in the right positions for success. IMO winning will earn the players respect...... something he still must prove he can do...............

I hope we go and win the Superbowl but after evaluating why we won the Superbowl find that it was not Philbin but the will of the players. Let another team believe that he can coach.

I hope that what CK posted is true....I find the collaboration of Mike T and our GM a good thing! As far a Philbin... he needs to coach better...and win more games...the rest, will take care of itself!

Link?

Ross has known Tannenbaum for years, its not like he just walked in the door. That makes zero sense for him to suddenly get star eyed and handing him peoples jobs.

The 3 big signings we have made were all Hickeys signings and the players have all alluded to it. Cameron saying Hickey and this forward thinking nfl ideas he came with sold him.

Suh was planned for towards the end of last year, no Tannenbaum involved. It makes ZERO sense, from any angle for Tannenbaum to get handed Hickeys gig. His agent hasdnt filed breach of contract. On and on and on.

Two things...... . If someone told you that, don't ever listen to them again.

If Parrott did say that and there is a legit link, don't ever listen to Parrott again.

It makes ZERO sense if anyone will actually think about it, namely, WHY? What did Hickey do other than hand us a nice draft to have him lose his gig? I don't care if the GM's name is hickey or finklestein, this makes zero sense and considering his contract states control of ALL players and draft, why haven't he and his agent filed a breach of contract?

Hickey worked for years for this shot at a gm gig and he is going to sit and do nothing after Ross brings in his old pal, who really his nothing special and hands him his gig? Tells him your his assistant now? Its not like he was Ray Farmer who blew his draft and then was caught cheating. He gave us the best overall draft we have had in years and he is booted?

Wasn't it just a couple short years ago we were all laughing at Tannenbaum and the Jets for all the high priced players they were dragging in for huge contracts and knowing their cap was history? And........, Didn't he get Fired from the jets?

This is our super impressive wonder Exec?

Nope. Not buying it. Until I see Hickey or Ross or Hickeys agent saying he lost his gig, i am not buying into it. And if it is true and Ross, who has major blunders on his nfl resume did bring in his Jet buster pal and hand him a promising young GM's job, we are doomed in nfl circles.

I dont think the league has forgotten about his classless move with harbaugh. This would be worse and Ross needs that like a hole in the head!! How would that play out if we had to look for another gm?

And the other thing that makes that rumour bogus? Philbin was never in any loop as far as player acquisition or draft. He coaches the team and decides who plays, PERIOD!!! That's his contract. It is now and was also with Ireland.

The player transactions are well stated above. Here are some other things people might not think to note but are important nonetheless:

1. Mike Tannenbaum is now in charge of everything. He'd previously been a consultant on implementing analytics and sports science/technology (since Hickey, despite his claims, is clueless on this stuff). Tannenbaum impressed Steve Ross so much that Ross essentially made him his avatar inside the building. Ross is still in charge, and I think he showed that by probably being the main driver behind signing Ndamukong Suh, but Tannenbaum is the guy that makes Ross' visions come true and manages everyone else. Tannenbaum is, in a word, ballsy. You get the feeling he's one of those fast and loose, no dream is too big kind of guys. He's also a wheel and deal kind of guy. Loves to get on the phone and talk trade.

2. Dennis Hickey has become sort of a lieutenant to Tannenbaum, and I'm not entirely sure Hickey minds. He gets to focus on player evaluations and that's what he likes.

3. Philbin on the other hand seems to have taken a demotion when it comes to off season decision-making. There have been definite signs he's not even being kept in the loop. The whole tiresome explanation of why the Dolphins won't be interested in a certain player because "Philbin wouldn't like him" is no longer a thing. The front office people almost don't care what he thinks. They tell Philbin what they think he needs to know, and they ask him his opinion only when they really want it. The Suh signing said it all, perfect microcosm of everything that has changed. Suh arrived at the building to meet Steve Ross, Mike Tannenbaum, Matt Higgins and some others. There Suh is in pictures signing his contract, posing with Tannenbaum and Ross (no Dennis Hickey present). Then they have a press conference with Suh and Ross sitting at a table flanked by Hickey and Tannenbaum. Where's Joe Philbin? Literally in the audience with members of the press. That's a thing that actually happened.

4. May be noteworthy, may not be, but while no changes have been made to the coaching staff (which is still under Philbin's purview), they have seemingly made a decision to simplify the defense and make it easier for young players to play in.
