Ok...as far as I know, none of these guys are under contract. (I could be wrong). So, what happens if a guy like Davis, Smith or White go down with an ACL or something? I know it was just shorts...but from what I read, it got a little physical sometimes.

So, how does that work? Anyone know? Should the agents let this happen? Just asking.

If they are high draft picks, they most likely still sign. Most of the guys there were try out players, so if they go down it just really sucks for them because they most likely will not get signed. Some of the players there were already under contract.

AAHH...so no one knows? Good question.

Ya, it is a good question.

It is a BIG reason why Vontae Davis got chewed out by Sparano for hitting a reciever on one play.

The coaches tell the players no contact and no one on the ground.

Accidents happen though, and I'm not sure if there is some sort of temporary agreement between the team and the player in the event of an injury.

I'd imagine the player does have some protection, just not sure what it is.

They're already insured, essentially their bodies are insured. If the go down with an injury, they can collect pay, albeit a lot less than what their contract would have paid them.

I think if a top pick goes down, than he may collect money for his injury and also sign a contract with the team, but for a lot less.

Here is an article I found:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/22/sports/football/22nfl.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&ref=ncaafootball

The policies cover the athletes if an injury, sustained on the field or off, prevents them from playing professionally. With rare exceptions, policies do not protect an athlete whose draft stock and potential contract value merely decline because of an injury or accident. The policies expire when a professional contract is signed; some players take out disability policies once they turn pro.

Typically, college athletes and their families will secure loans to cover the premiums. In football, the cost is roughly 1 percent of the policy’s value, or about $10,000 for $1 million worth of insurance. The amount of coverage available for the best players — those expected to be chosen in the first few picks of the draft — has nudged to about $10 million, double what it was at the start of the decade.

“I don’t think there will be anybody drafted on the first day who will not be covered by disability insurance,” said Keith Lerner, whose Total Planning Sports Services in Gainesville, Fla., focuses on insurance for college athletes.

Most of the policies are bought before the players embark on their final college season, and after draft experts — and insurers — predict their spot in the next draft.

So i think the injury settlement really depends on the where the player was slated to go and what type of injury the player sustained. So a 3rd rounder may never buy an insurance policy because it may be too much to justify in relation to the contract that will be signed.

It's all a bit confusing...

I had heard they had insurance as well to participate in minicamp. I also hope the FO can get the contracts knocked out quick and no holdouts this year. I'm excited to see these guys play!

That would make good sense too.

I think this answers your question...
Section 3. Required Tender: A Club that drafts a player shall be deemed to have automatically tendered the player a one year NFL Player Contract for the Minimum Active/Inactive List Salary then applicable to the player pursuant to the terms of this Agreement. The NFL or the Club shall provide the player with notice of such Required Tender before or immediately following the Draft.

This is from 2002, but I see the same writing in 2008, but since it was in pdf form I couldn't post it here, so I'm using this one.. but basically the club is on tab for the first year contract based on where that draftee is drafted or slotted and the compensation of that spot.. In other words the draftee still get to sign the first year of the contract and the club is obligated to pay them year one.. then the injury is reevaluation and the normal injury rules apply thereafterwards..
