Why don't in "Hail Mary" situations we put Henne in? It seems like it would be easy to practice them once or twice a week in practice and then take advantage of the cannon arm when we need to really fling the ball down the field. It seems ludicrous to have Penny (as much as I like the guy) try to heave the ball 60 yards down field. I saw this a couple of times last year and could never understand it. Henne was the #2 QB, the BFB (Beast From BYU) #3.

If you take Pennington out, thats saying we dont think you can win this game.
Thats hard to do to someone like Chad.

I mean it makes sense, if it's a 70 yard play. But if its 40-50 yards i still want Pennington comming in.. You'd prefer Henne's stronger, but Cold arm?

I see your point, i mean it makes sense, I'm just trying to come up with reasons for why it didn't happen last year.
 
The defenders are not blind, they see Chad Henne run onto the field and watch how many defenders start taking steps back.
 
There are times at the end of a half/game where the Hail Mary is all you got. I would think that you could see a few plays ahead it might be coming (or just have Henne stay warmed up on the sideline in close games). And pulling Pennington doesn't mean we can't win, just that in THIS specific situation Henne's cannon beats out Penny's pistol (although Penny is a crack pistol shot!).

And in a Hail Mary situation, everyone is standing back anyway, Penny or Henne.
 
It probably wouldnt be a hail mary if Henne threw it. It would just be a bomb if Henne threw it. The ball seems to float out of Penningtons hands, thus call it a hail mary.
 
Ok, then why down't we throw a BOMB from Henne at the end of a half instead of a HAIL MARY from Penny? I just don't get it. Are they trying not to mess up Chad H's stats?
 
I know this is a stretch, but if he completes it is there a sudden QB contreversy?

I don't think it's a bad idea and I recall the subject somoing up before. Chad's a big boy and he should know what's going on if Henne is put in. If it's past the 50, I don't see any harm in it.
 
Put Henne in!! Theres no reason not to especailly if were far away from getting a td. Just makes sence.
 
didnt we run some plays last year with pennington where it was a hail mary situation and pennington just dumped the ball off and they started doing laterals? i dont know, i thought i remembered something like that, but i could be wrong. hopefully we wont be in any situations where we have to do a hail mary.
 
The other team knows that's all we can to so they can defense accordingly. With Henne in there more of the field comes into play.
