18 years > 6 years. That's a huge gap in longevity to be comparing the two. Ireland also held a position that has a much higher turnover rate throughout the league. You don't last long as a GM unless you excel at it. Director of Personnel men are much more salvageable.
Years ago the Glazier dad had health problems and his misfit sons took over running the Bucs. No qualifications other then Silver Spoon! They were and still are obsessed with anything from the McKay Dungy era and have a hard time letting go of people from it. Notice who they hired as HC?
Why has he never gotten GM interviews in those 18 years? He was the next to last on the list. I'm not sure he was hired solely on his abilities as he was his willingness to play nice with Philbin and Aponte.
Maybe he is great as a lower level personnel guy, but that doesn't mean he will make a great GM. I think the more pertinent question is if he was so great, why didn't he even sniff a promotion to GM in nearly 2 decades?
