Didnt there used to be a rule where you couldnt play two home in a row in the playoffs??? Or something along those lines...I thought the game that the fins beat the steelers to go to the superbowl was in pittsburg but on wiclepida.com they say the game was at the orange bowl...Little help??

I believe that was because they used to rotate the the Conference championship game so no matter which team had the better record each division had a chance to host that game. Now of course it's strictly by best record or tie breaker.

You are correct. 1972 Dolphins had to go to Pittsburgh undefeated to play the Steelers. The site of the game was rotated between divisions somehow like the guy said above.

That game 1972 was in Pittsburgh. The 1984 playoff game against the Steeler was in Miami.

Ok cool...But what happend if it was the AFC Easts turn to host and no AFC East teams were left??

Then it would have went to the division that did not last host the championship game.

That is why 1972 was so special....we did not get any home field advantage even though we were unbeaten...we had to win in Pittsburgh in the playoffs.
