Hi dolphins fans I am a packer fan and I we seem to be having head coaching problems in GB IMHO. The guy I want to be the next Packer coach is Our new defensive coordinator Jim Bates. You guys know way more than me about Jim Bates so my question to you guys is do you think he could be a great Head coach?

i think he could of made a decent head coach for us, not as good as saban but he certainly has the winning attitude and it would be nice to see him head coch somewhere

I don't know....He's a pretty good Defensive Coordinator and his guys seem to feel a great deal of respect and loyalty for him...With your current situation I wouldn't be surprised if he got the job.

He can get guys pumped up and can get them to play hard for him...

I didnt know anything about Saban at first, and I figured since he was from college he would be a bad coach. I wanted Bates to be the coach (although I am very happy with Saban now). He won against NE and the players loved him. He would be a good HC

tell me about it. Its a huge mess down here most of our coaches dont know what they are doing. The reason I like Bates is he has so much fire and the players seem to love playing for him. I thought he did a pretty good job when he was your interim head coach.

Honestly packfan, he's a personable, likeable guy, and the players seemed to play hard for him last year, but I think that was more because of the situation.

A guy Bates' age would have made HC by now if he had the mind, the organizational tools, and the intangibles to make it. I think he's a great Assistant, but (unfortunately) probably not HC material.

Not knocking the guy, I loved him when he was here. Just my gut feeling.

IMO, he wouldn't be a great coach. But he would be a good coach. He'd definitely get the players pumped up for the games, something that a lot of losing teams lack.

A player's coach unlike Wanny. Wanny tried to be nice guy to everyone with the hopes he would be respected. Bates took the bulls by the horn and earned the team's respect. JB will make a fine HC.

I think he's a good defensive coordinator, but I would not want him as a head coach. I think if the Packers decide to get rid of Mike Sherman there will be better options. I think GB may need to overhaul, I believe Green is an UFA after this season and I don't know if Favre will comeback next season, so realistically it could be Rodgers/Davenport backfield for GB next season. I don't really care if a coach is pumped up on the sidelines, I care if he can coach. The Phins were a better team with Bates, but I think people get lost that the team went like 3-3 with him, the New England victory was great, but those other two victories were against Sf, and Cleveland. Bates probably will always be a defensive coordinator, and won't get a head coaching job, very similar to Cottrell, who may end up as Minnesota's interim head coach if Tice gets the ax.

Hmm, he's a great defensive coordinator and brought our horrible offense to life (if you want to call it that) when he took over last year. That being said, I think his defensive schemes are pretty basic and rely on great players that he might not always have. Watch any game where Zach Thomas was out (Tennessee game in '03 comes to mind).

I think Bates was overrated. Players only played better under him becuase of the situation. If you can remember the same thing happened a few years ago with the Vikings. They fired Dennis Green during a bad season and Mike Tice became the interim coach. They finished the season strong with Tice (not that it made a difference) and he was later named the Head Coach. Now that Tice has been on the "Hot Seat" for what seems like forever, the Vikes realized that he wasn't the right guy for the job. I think Bates would be an average coach in this league, but better than Tice. I know this might be hard to accept but you're just going to have to trash this season, atleast the Packers will have a high pick in the draft :(. I think the Eagles OC Brad Childress is the best coach available, maybe you'll get him next year?

He'd be a very good HC. I'm glad we got Saban, but Bates would have been fine.

Didnt the Packers give Sherman a big extension in the offseason? It would be expensive to fire him and I think he has Farve in his corner, might be tough to get rid of him. I don't think the Packers are that great right now, Green doesnt seem to be a great Rb anymore, the oline left in the offseason, Farve is looking good but not great anymore, the team is in transition imo, the do need a new coaching staff.
I think if Bates hired some really really good assistants on offense, he could be a good HC. Probaly not that great but he could be good.
