if we do in fact draft chris long, what does our LB depth chart look like? ...assuming we dont trade JT as that seems unlikely anymore

OLB-STARTERS
Joey Porter
Jason Taylor

ILB-STARTERS
Channing Crowder
Reggie Torbor

So We'd invest a first round pick and something like $30 million guaranteed in OLB who'd rarely be playing... and he definitely wont be on special teams cuz u dont invest that much in a guy to get him on special teams his first year...so as much as I like Chris Long, i dont like the pick...
We need a offensive tackle just so I say go with the other Long and solidify that line for years! and also, really give Beck a chance to shine behind a really impressive line

Miami will find a way to use Chris Long. Jake Long's ability to play LT in the NFL is being questioned. The "experts" are now saying he is better suited for RT. Miami isn't going to pay that kind of money for a RT.

IMO if we draft him, JT is traded. Or, they shock us and cut Porter; we have the money to take the cap hit, and they may prefer Long learn the ropes from JT.

i dont buy that guys!... theyre gonna "find" a way to get him in the game.. fine, at the expense of someone else not playing.. and u know JT is playing so its gotta be Porter... which is suuuuch a waste!!!! were payin 3 OLBs wayyyyyyy too much money!!!

Their is no more gaurantee that Jake would solidify our line. Look at it like this if you will? Any pick you take you know their is a chance that you won't get what is expected. Their is always a bust or 2 at the top of the draft or just mediocracy for a career. If you were going to gamble with 30 million dollars would you not want teh guy with the best chance of not failing. No one has ever shown more heart, leadership, and versatility than Chris Long at the college level. He has also done so in a Bill Parcel's disiple's system and was called the best player the guy who coached LT's position for Bill, he has ever seen. He is thje safest pick in the draft, would fill a position or 2 because he can play DE better than anyone, and would give us a leadership we haven't had on D in a very, very, Long time.

The fact that Chris lost 20 pounds and started practicing LB drills all offseason make me think Parcells and co. have already gauranteed him to be picked. Why else would the best DE in the Nation drop 20 pounds and change positions?

Jason Taylor will not be in Miami in 2008. 2008 will probably be Joey Porter's last season as a Miami Dolphin. Chris Long will be seeing plenty of time on the field.

First off I doubt anything has been guaranteed. Second if Long has dropped 20 pounds its to cover all his bases. It makes him a viable 4-3 DE and an OLB in the 3-4. Although I still have questions about him playing LB.

He has been great in all his LB drills and you don't have to worry about him bringing everything he has no matter where he is lined up. I would prefer to keep him at DE if we are smart enough to get him though.

My thinking is Chris Long will be the pick. Again nothing is guaranteed. I have been on the fence all along but as we transition from the hybrid 4-3 to a total 3-4 the guy will be the best fit.

C. Long solves a lot of issues with the D.

If JT goes Rod Wright moves over to DE and let Long rush the passer from the outside continuosly.

In a 3-4 ILB will have coverage duties on the TE. Can Crowder cover 1 on 1. Doubt it. Presents another problem.

I think one of Chris's many qualities is his ability to get off blocks and his use of great knowledge and technique from the DE position. He can move down the line better than any DE I've ever seen and is almost just as good against the run as pass because of his relentlesness, great angles, and awareness . I just don't know why anyone would want to switch his position.
