I remember a week or two ago hearing that if Tannehill threw for 200+ yards a game, he would break a Dolphin passing record... I forgot which record this was, can someone remind me? thanks

Most passing yards by a dolphins QB in his first two years?

Marino threw for 7294 yards in his first two seasons. Tannehill is at 6921 yards with two games to go...374 yards from breaking it...but in all fairness Marino only started 9 games his rookie season, played in 11.

Yep. Marino's 1984 season was the single greatest individual performance in NFL history, IMO.

In all fairness Tannehill had Mike Sherman calling his plays and his 1st year his best WRs were a still emerging Brian Hartline and a declining Davone Bess. Tannehill is no Marino but he's easily the best QB we've had since him and that's pretty impressive that he's that close to his yardage mark, even with asterisks.

Good point. We had nothing at WR last year and very little at TE in Fasano while Clay was struggling to learn the playbook. Not only was Bess declining but he didn't even play the last 4 games of the season. That was just the worst possible WR corp anyone could put together.

Plus Marino played back when the defense could play a much more physical style, not the 7 on 7 type they have been saddled with in the last 10 years.

It was a little harder to pass back then but Marino did have more help. The WR's were Duper, Clayton and Moore. The RB's included Tony Nathan who was very good at cathing the ball and the oline had Stevenson, Kuechenburg, Eddie Newman and Jon Gisler protecting him.Tannehill's been sacked 50 times.

Ozzy rules!!

I don't think anybody is trying to say that Tannehill is better than Marino. Just saying he is the best since. I will not complain if he turns out to be the second bet QB that Miami has ever had.

As much as Sherman seems to frustrate a lot of us. The statement about Clay shows the importance of keeping OC's and head coaches for the development of a young offense. I think keeping the organization in tact for your young QB and his weapons is paramount. I can't imagine how detrimental a change would be to our future. Tannehill gets to learn the nuances of defenses and NFL play in a system he was comfortable to begin with. This is huge to his progression.

As Mudder said before, if Marino had played with these rules, he might have gotten much much closer to 8000 yards, on the other hand that is not a knock on Tannehill, who is on pace to reach 7500 yards in two years. Tannehill has not yet reached his potential, yet already he is playing among the top QBs of his time....exciting time for us.
