Does anyone know through the media if we have upgraded or hired any new scouts and if so where they came from?

I am curious that with Ross wanting to do things right and build a winner this time through the draft coupled with the Dolphins scouting department being below average in the past years to identify talent, especially the lines on both sides of the ball, have the Dolphins poached any scouts from successful teams this year?

For example, the Steelers offensive line scouts. They seem to be able to identify offensive line players in the draft better than most, or defensive line scouts from the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean with Ross’s willingness to spend excessive amounts of money on players in the past, why wouldn’t he think about searching for and spending money on guys that will help them draft better going forward?

I see that Allen and McKenzie are new but all the other scouts like Ron Brockington, Adam Engroff , Anthony Hunt and Matt Winston have been promoted recently and all have more than 10 years experience with the Dolphins. It seems to me that you should be replacing these guys not promoting them due to past performance.

Usually scouting department overhauls are done after the draft. I doubt there will be changes considering this is Grier's department.

This is a difficult area for us as fans to evaluate. The scouts grade the players of the region but are not the final decision makers in assembling the teams draft board (database). I do trust Grier (for now and only time will tell) to know who has been hitting or missing in their player evaluations.

Ok, and thanks for the lesson. I didn’t know scouts were responsible for all positions within a region.

Wasn't Grier a scout before? Seems like he should have a good network of guys to pull from, and know what to look for. If I was a scout I'd probably want to work for a guy like Grier that knows the job and has come up the ranks too.

Scouting is categorized by region, not by position.

In other words, whoever the Dolphins have scouting the southeast region of the U.S. has done a good job. But whoever they have scouting the west coast and midwest should've been gone a long time ago.

Flores seem to indicate scouting based on positional aptitude -- like some dudes can scout/eval OL

and obviously the dweebs we've had doing that in the past pretty much sucked.

I get the geographical gig but positional seems to make more (specialized) sense.

Thoughts?

Or not.

Is it the scouting was bad, or was it the egomaniac who had the choice in selecting the players scouted was bad?

I mean, at end of the day a scout can bang on table all he wants, and so can the director of player personnel....but if owner, psuedo gm/VP douchebag Tbum....overrule the scouts...whose to say the scouts were bad?

I read an article back in the day when pornstache was coach and everyone said to draft Drew Brees and next draft year to draft Anquan Boldin and he chose his guys, and did that mean our scouts were bad back then? Hell no, it's the head honcho, it falls on them to select the right guys, put faith in your organization and scouts and not be the egomaniac!
