What was the "scenario" for us to get in going into that week 16 debacle against the pats? Also if anyone is really feeling froggy what was the "scenario" for us going into week 15 against the vikes? Just curious. My memory is a little jaded those two games ruined me for life!

both of those games, a win and we were in, after the pats loss we could have got in with a jets loss to green bay, but it didnt happen.

9-5 win ONE game and win the division. Lose and hope the Jets lose at home to Green Bay in the 4PM game. Jets blew em out no playoffs:( I think that was the year they sent like 7 or 8 guys to the Pro Bowl though:)

was there anyway we could have clinched by beating the vikes? Or did we have to beat the pats?

I don't recall if the Vikes game would have clinched or not, but it wasn't meaningless. It might have affected a playoff bye.

The Pats game was really miserable. Once things started coming apart, it was like watching a wreck in slow motion. Good as our defense used to be, they had a way of coming unglued in situations like that. (Anyone remember that stupid facemask penalty to help keep a critical Pats drive going?)

I got the same feeling during that Monday night mess with the Jets. I thought Miami was doomed long before time ran out, when Madison got beat for a TD and responded by laughing.

After the Pats game, I was happy that the Jets won and knocked the Pats out of the playoffs three hours after they beat us.

In that new england game didn't Mare go to kick it off in OT or with not much time left in the 4th and kicked it out of bounds to give the pats great field position? I turned it off at that point and walked away that alone made me sick.

Yup, ONE stinking win against 2 teams with losing records. That collapse really defined the Wanny years:rolleyes2:

We would have clinched a playoff spot with a victory over the vikings. At the time of that game we were 9-5 and would be the #1 seed (remember we beat Oakland the week before) but we lost the final two and missed out at 9-7.

I know that I will be hated for this, but this game is a classic example of how our Pro Bowl laden defense would fall apart when the chips were down, and has done prior to this year for what seems like 'forever.' JT, Zach, Madison, Surtain, Gardner would just not finish the job.

I have read at a distance the discussion about JT and him leaving for the Skins at a distance. I have actually waited until someone else brought up this type of situation to say that I wanted them all (yep, I said it, even JT) to go away in the last few years. Put simply, it is because they were unreliable at the end of big games. Even JT, who was my favorite Phin of the last ten years. This problem was consistent through Johnson, Wanny, Saban and Cam.

I have faith in the future. This team, our team, will be good for the next few years because we basically blew up any part of the Johnson/Wanny era.

That defense fell appart against a beatable Vikings team. They just couldn't stop the run. Then we lead the Pats by like 13 pts with 3-4 minutes left to play and it was one mistake after another. But even before the 2002 debacle, it always seemed like losing to the Pats signaled new era's for the team. Remember losing to the Pats 3 times in one year usured out Don Shula and ushered in Jimmy J.

I think we were up 24-13 with 4 minutes left. One of the most sickening losses ever.

yeah what happened that year? All I remember was losing twice during the regular season the second game was the last game of the year and then they beat us in the first round. Anyone remember in detail why we lost to them 3 times?
