Questions that Still Need to be Answered with Philbin Hire...

I for one do not wish him luck. I wish him many years of success, plain and simple. no matter who was hired, questions were going to surround them. now we just need time to find out if Ross was right "again" as he was in trying to get Harbaugh last year.

Imagine if you passed on another Mike Tomlin (which we did) or Rex Ryan (which we did) by going away from Mike McCoy or Todd Bowles...let alone not even interviewing Chud.

So instead of being sarcastic, you better hope that Joe Philbin is a solid hire.
im just messin w/ you.

i guess time will tell. i hope anybody we hire is solid. never works out that way though. maybe philbin can bring some of that winning attitude down here.

At the end of the day, we want to improve and have a winner.

5. What kind of coach is Philbin? I remember Chris Mortenson saying a few weeks ago that a respected and longtime member of the Packers compared Philbin to Joe Gibbs in his structure and organization...high praise that I love to hear. However, I have not seen it one way or the other.

6. Is Philbin a leader of men? This what I want to know. Can he make this team mentally tough? Can he get the most out of their talent and mask weaknesses? Is he articulate enough to explain the vision of the team going forward?

Philbin is articulate and supposedly terrific at coaching clinics, very detailed and specific on Xs and Os. He's a low key reserved speaker when dealing with the media. Now that the reigns are his I hope he confidently opens up in that regard. We've had too many recent coaches and general managers who didn't grasp what a benefit the sports media can be when you're open and respectful to them.

I have a buddy in Las Vegas who is a huge Iowa fan. I called him an hour ago and he said nobody had a bad word about Philbin and that Iowa's offensive lines were at their peak in the Philbin era as offensive line coach, that only USC shoved them around in Philbin's final season of 2002, in the Orange Bowl. He told me many Iowa fans hoped Philbin would return someday, perhaps to replace Ferentz as head coach, but the impression was Philbin despised recruiting and was better suited to the NFL.

In particular, I appreciated that my buddy laughed when I expressed concern that Philbin wouldn't run the ball often enough. He said that Philbin at Iowa was openly annoyed when Ferentz didn't relentlessly run the ball when the opponent was vulnerable.

If they passed on the next Rex Ryan I would be ecstatic. Rex Ryan will not last. You are starting to see what happens when you have a coach with his personality. It's great when everything is smooth sailing, but when times get rough, the team can unravel in a hurry. It never ends well.

Great post. All legit questions that need answering .Thats the stage we've advanced to now. Everyone is clearly just happy the search is over and putting on a happy face, but you've gotta be concerned about how it all went down, and will proceed to go down.

Another one : Where the hell is Peterson now ? He WAS on the chopper with Fisher........ is this guy going to lurk around off the payroll Forever or what ? If Ross likes Ireland so much, why does he need Peterson ? It seems like once a lot of questioning arose, they started to verbally promote Ireland and stashed Peterson in the closet.

They're not exactly instilling confidence.

Speaking of what kind of coach is he. I thought I read that he would come up with the game plan but Mike McCarthy would call the plays. As a coach will he call the plays? How many coaches in the NFL call the plays and who have had more success? The one's that call the plays or the ones that don't?

Another question is what is the contingency plan if Flynn signs elsewhere.

The number one question that needs to be answered is how excited does Philbin get over a field goal?

What's so special about Rex Ryan. He's the type of coach that wears out his welcome real quick. The fans will turn on him next season if they don't make the playoffs

Let me first state for the historical record I wanted Brian Billick initially as HC and totally supported the idea of Jeff Fisher. Upon Fisher spurning the Fins, Mike McCoy was a great candidate IMO.

Joe Philbin's hire does not bother me. I could think of worse candidates such as Jim Haslett and Brian Schottenheimer.

However, I still have some issues that need to be resolved or answered.

1. Who's pick was this? How much did Ross want Philbin? How much did Ireland want McCoy? How much of a tussle was there?

2. Can Ireland work with Philbin?

2. Did McCoy turn off the team by not wanting Bowles as DC? If that is true, this is a very troubling development. One, it means McCoy was the preferred candidate. Two, why does the FO insist on micromanaging coaching matters.

3. Who is on Philbin's Staff? I think it is naive to think that ALL the Green Bay staff will head south. Tom Clements I do not believe comes to Miami. Everyone seems convinced he is on his way. Why? The Fins are known as a dysfunctional organization and Clements can move into the OC role in Green Bay. The same for various defensive coaches. The truth is Green Bay will probably give a parting gift of a few coaches, but not major coaches like Clements and Winston Moss.

Does Brad Childress come as OC? Brian Schottenheimer? Does Eric Mangini come as DC in that he is a 3-4 guy? Does Philbin have neophyte coordinators? LOTS OF QUESTIONS HERE...

4. Will Matt Flynn come to Miami? The Matt Flynn connection. I do not think you hire a coach just because he might be able to deliver a coach. With that being said, Philbin and the Fins better deliver Flynn. If Flynn is not signed, this selection is highly questionable. McCoy or Daboll with Matt Moore is a better situation along with McCoy instructing RGIII.

I REALLY wish him luck. What a range of emotions the Philbin Family must be feeling. I want to see how these questions are answered in the coming weeks. The Miami Dolphins must return to relevance and hopefully Joe Philbin can lead that charge.

WE MIGHT HAVE ANSWER TO #3...

Philbin BETTER be his own man.
