When an NFL player is suspended for any length of time, such as Ricky being suspended for the first four games this season, are they allowed to suit up with the team, or at least be on the sidelines during games or do they have to stay off the field?

The only contact ricky can have is the entire preseason, then not again until week 6.

If I remember correctly, Ether is right. Once the preseason is over with Ricky can't have any contact with the team. It will be like the last few months were.

That's gonna be rough. He'll fall even farther behind with the teams progress and be unsupervised for five weeks. I mean he is a grown adult and a Professional but he doesn't always, if ever, act like it. That gives me reason to worry

If I remember right they can't have contact with the team. They can talk on the phone but they can't be at the facilitys or anything. I think that was the way it was when Jimmy Smith was suspended for the first 4 games the year he was suspended.

It's five weeks away from the field to ponder whether he still wants to play football. I think he may quit during that time if he is still as unstable mentally as he has been this year.

He's been unsupervised since February(when he made the decision to come back) nothing bad happened. I don't see why you would worry. Saban isn't going to babysit him. Ricky is a grown man and can handle himself.

Guys~

I have actually done some research on the manner and spoke with an NFL representative and he told me that any player definately cant suit up on Sundays, but is able to practice with the team all week during the suspension

I think I'd have to agree with Megatron ... If he were to quit at any time that would be the perfect time for a few reasons:

1) he'd already been back into football with the preseason behind him and could realize whether his heart is in or out.
2) his friends have been quoted as to saying "once he starts the season he's going to finish it". Well ... technically he wouldn't have started the season yet if he's serving a suspension.
3) This guy is the most random fruitcake I've seen in all of my life. He could change his mind like any of you could change a channel on your television.

You're wrong. I don't know who you talked to but they're wrong as well.

B. Suspensions 1. Suspension Procedures.

During any suspension, the player may not participate with his team in any way (including but not limited to joint press conferences with team officials on or off club premises; provided, however, that the suspended player may see his Treating Clinician for treatment purposes on club property but must vacate the premises immediately following termination of the treatment session with the Treating Clinician), and will not receive any pay, including pay for any post-season game that he misses because of his suspension, except as provided by Article XLII, Section 4 of the CBA.

That makes a lot of sense. If they weren't able to practice with the team think of how many people that have served suspensions that would have fallen to far out of the loop to start the first week they are back. Thanks everyone for the info.
