Quinton Spears OLB #48 - Next UDFA gem

It probably won't be this year, but I see Spears as the next UDFA gem. Starters wont see much if any time on the field but I'll be watching closely for this player.
 
Spears looked good again in his 4th preseason game. Didn't catch the 3rd preseason but he probably didn't get a chance to play. Looks like a nice defensive project. Stash him away!
 
Im onboard. He looks awesome. Nonstop motor and somehow has a nose for the ball. When the QB is about to throw he always put his hands up. I love how he got into a squabble with the atl qb. parkerwilson or whoever it was .. He deserves a spot on this team. Thanks for the VID i enjoyed it

I have to agree. The kid has flashed many times but he is too raw to win a roster spot. He needs to bulk up a bit to play OLB in the 3-4 because right now he would only be serviceable as a situational pass rusher. However, you better believe the Phins will sign him to the PS and hope no one else steals him.
 
I'd probably keep this guy over Alama Francis right now. In fact, I suggested that very thing in a "cut the 53" thread earlier this week. Between Jason Taylor and Koa Misi we already have some pretty high end strong side edge setters, which in my view makes Alama Francis fairly well redundant.

What we don't have is another true pass rusher, and Spears, while raw and undersized, could be useful in certain situations this year. Unfortunately, they'll probably be bookmarking those opportunities for Jason Taylor, but still, I don't think this is a guy we should let go. Get him in the game where you can and really get his butt in a weight room. If he can add about 15 pounds without losing any of his burst (which is what Wake did in his year away from football), then we might have something here.
 
Thre is a major disconnect between the media and the fans on this guy. Most media see him as a long shot at best. If he does go on to do well somewhere else it will be yet another failure story in terms of the team developing talent.

M telling you that the jets will grab him. He's the type of guy they are looking for. They signed maybin and did you see how thin he looks. They are desperate
 
They better keep him. If they don't I predict he will wind up on the Jets. They could have him back up Wake this season than challenge Misi next season.
 
I agree with an earlier post...he should replace Alama Francis. More upside and Alama Francis never sees the field anyway.
