Went to a raider message board and posted these questions up, figured I should ask some people who have actually seen him play, here are the answers they gave me, I think you will like them.......

Question:
1) How good was he when he was with you?
2) Do you think he still has something left in him, or nothing left?
3) Why was he released?

Thanks any answers are greatly appreciated.

Answer1:

1.he was ok but injuries got to him and he did lose his starting job to Robert Gallery I think.
2.He does if he can stay healthy, hes a above average Lineman,he just has to stay healthy.
3.Dunno...

Answer2:

1. He was a solid lineman but no pro bowler. Injury prone.
2. Yes
3. Injury prone and we had a younger group of players.

Answer3:

He was a big part of one of the best lines in the league in 2002. But he has had problems with injuries and weight since then. If he can keep his weight down and stay on the field then he will be a very good run blocker for you.

Man does this get me pumped up, I cant wait for this season, heck I CANNOT wait for this monday night game, just to see them, GO PHINS:evil:

Ummmm....why would their be Raiders fans on a Finheaven web site?

I'm not a Raiders fan but to try to answer the questions...

1) he started some 100+ games for the Raiders during the last 4 years, including their SB run. He's a good lineman. Not the best in the league but above avg.

2) whethere he has anything left is dependent on #3

3) he was released because of injury concerns after he tore (i believe) one of his quadriceps....i.e. one of those big muscles in your legs :) That has a lot to do with lower body power, quickness and all those things which determine the player's effectiveness. If he comes back from the injury good....then he's a good pickup for us. If not....he should make a better backup then the likes of our 2nd and 3rd stringers...

The guy is smart, smart enough to say all the right things. For example:

Middleton, calling his first day of practice under coach Nick Saban "my hardest day in football in 12 years," was not concerned while waiting for offers this summer.

"I was sitting back waiting for the right time," Middleton said. "I'm old, man. I don't want to waste my last years in the league going 4-12, so I wanted to pick somebody that was good and try to get me back to the Super Bowl."

When reminded the Dolphins were indeed 4-12 last season, Middleton whipped out his aqua and orange pom-poms.

"Not this year. It can't be. Just watching the people they got on defense and the people they got on offense, it's just a better team," Middleton said.

How can you not like this guy? :D

I think Middleton is a great addition...I saw him play a few games at Mile High against the Denver Donkeys and he is always getting into people's faces. We definitely could use a few nasty guys here.

sry, it's late...working 3rd shift and tired with a bad headache...thx for catching that, lol

meant to say in his 8 years....4 with TB and 4 with Oak

more on why he was released:

"The Raiders, having to clear salary-cap room for receiver Randy Moss, waived Middleton and his $3 million cap hit on Feb. 28."

and for his starts and injuries

"Middleton, who has started 92 of the 109 games he has played, was in 10 games in 2003 before tearing his right quadriceps muscle and just seven games last year when he sustained the same injury on the opposite leg."

and on if he's any good....you be the judge...

anchored the Raiders' offensive line at left guard from 2000-2004. In 2002, Middleton was part of a unit that helped form the No. 1-ranked offense in the NFL, one that reached Super Bowl XXXVII (the Raiders lost to the Bucs).

LMFAO!!! :rofl3: :rofl3:

As long as he can contribute, I'll be happy. Watching OG T. Whitley leaves much to be desired. He can't be any worse than him, so I see Middleton as a depth upgrade in those regards...

The same goes for Ephraim. He should be a solid C or OG for us. Both Ephraim / Middleton could end up starting before all is said and done. The RG position is open right now from what I've seen, and McKinney / Whitley are the last option to start there in my opinion....

Let's see what these guys can do....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Heres a quote from Ben Maller after the OAK-TB Superbowl, where Middleton and Warren Sapp went head to head (remember, this was the prime of Warren Sapp's career).

http://benmaller.com/archives/rumorsnotes/2003_02_02_rumorsnotesarch.shtml

Warren Sapp's play during last week's Super Bowl was inconsequential as it related to the Bucs' win. He was not double-teamed - repeat: not double-teamed. Rather, he was dominated, head-to-head, by Raiders' OL Frank Middleton. Play after play Middleton had Sapp on his heels. But style-fueled notions rule the media and the day. Sapp, both on and off the field, has shown a career-long penchant for both coveting and generating attention. And starting with ABC, last Sunday, the media played it his way.

Warren Sapp will get $63,000 as his winner's share from the Super Bowl -- plus another $250,000 for appearing on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. That's just wrong.

This seems like a really good pickup.

If the guy stays healthy, he can bring some veteran leadership to the line
