I wanted to hold off on making this post until I could confirm my memory on this subject. Thank you Adam Schefter.

The Raiders negotiated with Brady Quinn first. They did this so that they could use their discussions with him as leverage against JaMarcus Russell.

Also, I feel pretty sure that the 49ers negotiated with Aaron Rodgers first as well.

Those supporters of Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey . . . just hold on, its coming.

Those supporters of Jake Long and Gholston . . . you may want to hold off on blasting everyone else until its a done deal.

Yeah, I expect they will probably talk contract with both Longs, Gholston, and Dorsey. Maybe even Derrick Harvey as Mort mentioned last night(I doubt it though). I wouldn't even be surprised to see Miami AGREE to contracts with two or three of those players before the draft and keep the suspense up during the draft of who they are taking. Doing that could even create more trade talk.

It's not an agreement till they sign on the dotted line. Given that, they will have someone signed sealed and delivered by draft day. Otherwise, they lose all their leverage.

Wow so Quinn the guy so many on this board want to call overrated was looked at with the first pick, how amazing. LOL Most people on this board have no clue on all the things that factor into where a QB is drafted.
So would Quinn have been considered a better prospect if the Raiders took him number one?

Not by anyone who saw both play.

I think thats debateable maybe not on this board lol. Hell Beck was a better prospect than anybody on this board. I think Russel had the better physical attributes and Quinn had his positives. I would have taken Quinn over Russel
but that's just me.

I say the Fins somehow "leak" out that we have 3 people that have agreed to contracts.
We don't say which guys have agreed, then we use that as bait for another team to panic and trade up with us.
Also....They should also include DMF in the group of prospects we have started to negotiate with. That will raise his value so we can trade with the Raiders.
Hopefully, we can have all the teams thinking we are going to take their player.

Then they are stupider than anyone first thought, how is it Russel held out so long?

There's nobody worth trading up for though. Nobody wants Dorsey, the Longs, or Gholston bad enough to move up. I don't think the Falcons want Matt Ryan that badly either, but that's the only scenario that I could see us trading down - with the Falcons wanting Matt Ryan. I think Petrino's going to try and gamble for Brohm in the 2nd.

:err:

Bobby Petrino is now the head coach at the University of Arkansas. Falcons fans despise Petrino, the same way Dolphins fans despise Nick Saban.

We're talking about Al Davis here, the geezer who rehired Art Shell.. so let's not get too carried away. However, yah, Quinn would be right up there as a dubious David Carr type pick alongside Gallery and Russell(who's underperformed Beck, so far).

Not true, a few teams had Quinn rated higher. Cleveland being 1, I believe the Vikings, and if it came down to it I believe even the mighty Phins would have taken Quinn over Russel if they didn't have a man crush on Beck and GINN AND both were on the board.

You just used the argument of a team using Quinn as a leverage tool against the player the Raiders really wanted at #1 while passing on him by picking that other player to support your view that Quinn was worth taking early 1st round...... you realize that right?

No that's not what he did...
