Raiders to name Tom Cable head coach for 09'

The Oakland Raiders have decided on Tom Cable as their head coach for the 2009 season, a source close to another candidate for the Raiders' head-coaching job has told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The source said the Raiders informed the other candidate Tuesday of their decision to go with Cable. A second source with knowledge of the Raiders' operation also told Smith the Raiders have settled on Cable as their head coach.

I kind of figured he would remain as head coach. Mostly because no coach in their right mind wants to be the Raiders coach. Not as long as Al Davis is in charge.

I would expect Cable to be fired after the 2009 search and another unsuccessful head coaching search. Who knows, maybe they will have to interview High School head coaches to find someone interested. :lol:
 
My prediction: Cable will be fired halfway through the '09 season. Al Davis will play innie-minnie-miney-mo and pick the waterboy to finish out the season as head coach.

VH1 will then contact Davis, selling him on an idea for a reality show where average people will compete to be the next head coach for the '10 season. Of course, all the "average" people will be full of reality show stereotypes...the hunky jock, the token black guy, the token gay guy, the b****y girl, the airhead girl....and after much dramatic (scripted) fighting and backstabbing...Al Davis will award the Golden Coach's Headset to....

Why doesn't Davis just go back to coaching them himself and be done with this charade? Maybe that would lead to his firing himself and, finally, letting someone else do the job.
 
Is this the first time in awhile that they've actually had a coach stay for longer than one season? Or was Kiffin there a year and a half too?

One of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports.

Al Davis has the original FBI picture of John Gotti walking down the street wearing a Raiders jacket hanging on his wall. (just a strange fact)

It's amazing they still have fans.
 
Back when I was in HS, we had one of the Raiderettes that lived next door to us with a bunch of these guys who went to the local University. The parties they had there were epic.
 
As much as I hate to say it but

The sooner Davis dies the better for the Raiders
 
i definitely agree with you Nubs...as long as Davis's running the Raiders,no good coach is going to want to go there and be the HC...
 
Both teams on either side of the Bay are dysfunctional. Oakland's just been at it a bit longer than the Niners have.
 
Yeah right. The Raiders haven't "decided" to hire Cable. They are stuck with him as no serious top quality coach in the NFL wants to be anywhere near Oakland because of Al "Commitment to Excellence" Davis.
 
Cable actually did a decent job in beating some good teams down the stretch. He will not be the coach in January of 2010, though.
 
Until they get someone to run the football operations in Oakland who has a clue what he is doing, i.e Bill Parcells. Full control, great mind. It doesn't matter who coaches them. The Raiders are going nowhere as usual.
