Ok might just be wishful thinking but living in jax. i've been checking the weather for MIA. and it shows 60% rain sunday. With the combination of a bye to watch more film, probable rain, ****y saints thinking they will win no matter what, and different field from the speedy domes they've been mostly playing in, that's gotta count for something right? hopefully....please!!

Actually wet field helps the offense. This was a myth that was busted recently in an NFL network show. The offensive player knows where he is going to cut, whereas the defensive player has to react. The defensive player therefore has a much higher chance of blowing coverage.

Now driving rain is a different story, but if its just slippery, I actually am more confident.

We would definitely be more prepared for it.. It seemed like all our pre season games were in the rain.... While the saints play in a dome.

Tell that to Don Shula in the 1982 "mud bowl".

Look it up.

heh

I think the rain plays to our advantage in the passing game. I think thats what he was referring to.

If you give us any advantage in the running game, it will be a lot of Brees sitting on the bench.

So your defense will be less likely to stop Ricky Williams when he gets the handoff on the run?

Is that what your trying to say?

we need to hope for the worst weather possible to slow down their passing attack and help our ground game. im wishfully thinking like the steelers game in 04

I may be by myself here but I actually don't want to beat the saints this way. I don't want to hear the all the talking heads blaming it on the conditions and not Miami's play.

If we beat them. I want to beat them on a good field with no injuries and against their best players.

If we are to win, this needs to be the game we shut everyone up.

Football is football. Weather happens, injuries happen and you can't make excuses. That's why you have a 53 man roster and homefield advantage.

But you guys make some good points. MIA will be a tough match up for the Saints and if you can catch a couple of breaks (weather, overconfidence, etc) or put together a better gameplan the fins can most definitely beat the Saints.

I think it will be a heckuva a game and I know Ricky and Tuna want to win this one badly.

Actually, I think that rain (and snow, as seen yesterday) can help the passing game, but I think rain does slow down the running game a lot more. A good passing play only requires one or two moves by the wide receiver, who may be one on one with a defender. So that advantage gained from knowing how to cut can be pretty big when you're talking guys getting open 15 or more yards downfield.

In the running game though, I think it can be adversely affected because a running back loses traction and can't make the cuts that are needed to make great runs at times. Also, a running back is practically facing the entire defense on most plays, with some of them being blocked of course but you get the point.

I do think the wildcat can still be very effective in rain because it's basic plays are downhill. And the end arounds require more spead than cutting ability.

I'm really looking forward to this match-up and just hope that our terrible secondary doesn't blow the game for the rest of the team.

Id say if it rains its worse for us cuz it would slow down Ronnie and Ricky.

Yup. Look at ne yesterday. 3 inches of snow on the ground and a record setting passing day. God I hate the pats.
