Coach Scott Linehan says the Rams are preparing for the Dolphins to take a pass with the No. 1 overall pick.

Linehan acknowledged that the possibility is slim, and will be slimmer if Miami strikes a deal with a player before the draft. But because of the money high picks command, teams outright passing is more realistic than ever.

Man, Im really hoping this does not go down. The Rams are in love with Jake Long suppsebly and I want Jake to be our pick

What else is he suppose to say if a journalist/reporter asks him about the situation.

R U SERIOUS? another us passing thread. have we not learned yet. :(

This (passing on the pick) has absolutely no possiblity of happening. Any team that did something like that would mocked and criticized like never before. Not to mention, that would basically be totally dis-heartening and a moral killer for the team.

So posting information on this site can now only be specific information? Seems to me you should be writing the Rams FO and complaining. Why are people so upset with the topic anyways?

basically because it has been posted on here so many times now as a 'new idea'. If you pick #1 then the agent of the player that you will sign sees it as #1 even if you don't pick then and you are trying to screw them unless you would just forget to pick the whole round I guess then their might be an argument. Forgetting to pick even though no one in this draft is worth the guarantee at the moment, isn't even considered an option.

"Passing" for one or twenty spots would be equally stupid. We would still have to pay big bucks, the only difference being our loss of picking who we want. :shakeno:

I wouln't want to let the pick expire either. However I don't thinnk that if we dropped to 10 and took Brandon Albert that he would want #1 money. I also dont think that if we dropped down to 6 and plucked Mcfadden to turn over to Dallas for picks would cause us finacial burdon. Not saying that I'd want these examples to happen. I do find it interesting though that other teams are preparing for it..what if we did let it pass and nobody took the pick..the chaos would be kinda funny actually.. I do know what you guys are talking about with all of these threads but I did find this one different and interesting. Same with all of the trade for TOm Brady and Randy Moss or whoever threads.

Passing the pick is STUPID on sooo many levels it isn't even funny. What kind of message does that send to players wanting to come here . . . . "I am going to skip Miami because that was the team who skipped the pick to save a few bucks" . . . I don't want to be known as that organization. Not to mention if anybody remembers the Rivers/Manning situation in 2004 . . . . Rivers still wanted #1 money . . . it really doesn't make no sense, and Linehan better focus on his job than focusing on a pipe dream. If he wants Jake he better give up that 2nd rounder.

The article is dated April 9th, it is an updated article whether we all have talked about it or not.

Thanks for the find Finatic. However I believe it's more hopeful to the Rams we do this it will not happen.

what's he supposed to say if posed with the question?

a) "we are not even entertaining the idea."

OR

b) "yes, we will be prepared for that rare scenario, we will be prepared for ALL scenarios."

I would hope my coach would say b.

In 2003 Minnesota had the clock expire while trying to make a trade and dropped from 7 to 9. People speculated they may have done it on purpose. Anyway their pick ended up demanding and getting the money of the higher pick.

Precident has been set, we will pay no matter what.
