Am I the only one who was really disappointed by Randys play last year? I remember him getting off to a red hot start where he was in the top 10 in catches after like 3 or 4 games and had a TD each game. Then he got that new big contract and seemed to really fade after that. I have always been a big McMichael fan so don't get me wrong. I really expect a lot more out of Randy this upcomming season. The thing I really love about Randy is, if you watch that season highlight film by nublar, he is always the first guy to congratulate a player after a big play. I love his heart, determination, will, and abilities. But I defintly expect more out of him this next season.

Year.. Catches..yards..TDs.. Ave..20+
2004...73...........791......4......10.8..9
2005...60...........582......5......9.7...4

He went down 13 catches, 209 yards, 1 YPC and had 4 less big plays of 20+ yards. I know that a lot of the balls were being hauled in by Chris but I think we need that 2004 production this year to make our offense complete. I'd also like to see him get more balls in the redzone and score more.

Am I just talking out of my a** or do you guys agree with me?

Only got one ball to go around to everybody. Like you said though, when McMikes numbers started falling off, CCs numbers went up. Also Ricky was back in full groove, and starting to get alot of carries the second half, so Randy sort of disappeared. Booker started stepping up about then too. I`d be very happy to see about 50 catches for 700 yards or so, and 6-8 TDs from McMike in `06.

That sounds pretty good. I would like to say about 10 more catches though so about 60. Yeah I agree on the TDs, like I said I would love to see him become more of a target in the red zone.

What people don't realize about Randy was our line was horrible and he was asked to stay in and block rather than go out on pass plays. He also was a MUCH MUCH better blocker than in previuos years.

McMike Not That Good

AND....McMike was dropping every ball thrown his way, or did we forget that?
Gus lost faith in him and correctly so. I think he dropped 2 big balls in the San Diego game and 1 perfect pass early in the Buffalo miracle comeback game and on and on.

Something was "up" with him so SABAN and LINEHAN started keeping him back more to block, but he didn't do that particularly well either. So now we have a new blocking TE so that supposedly McMike will be free to bolt and make catches from a 2 TE set. We'll see which McMike shows up next year. When we first drafted him I thought he was a steal for a fourth rounder, but with all of his inconsistencies, the dropped passes and the bad habit of continually beating his wife, he's looking more and more like a player who's days as a DOLPHIN are numbered unless he provides more CONSISTANT PRODUCTION. Hey, Daniel Graham is in the same boat and so are a lot of other TE's. They're supposed to be steady, easy and big targets with soft hands but when they start dropping a bunch of passes it makes the coaches nuts.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for saying that McMike is just average but c'mon, admit it... Every time he makes a reception you're begging that he just falls down and that he doesn't do what he ALWAYS does, which is cough up a fumble. I admire his effort but y'know, Sammy Smith gave great effort too and who cares?

I look for results. His speed gives us good mismatches, especially from a a base offensive set. But so what? If it means he's gonna drop the passes thrown to him then what's the point?

He needs to play a WHOLE lot better or SABAN will remind him of just how fragile an NFL career can be.

Mark my words.

GO PHINS!!

Perez, you make it sound like he dropped every pass thrown his way ?? He had some drops, but it wasn't quite as bad as you make it sound.

First, the OL struggled in pass protection last year. It was better than in previous years, but still needed improvement. RM was kept in to block more than any of us would have liked (including the coaches)...

Second, Linehan traditionally used the TE very little and when he did, it was for a) to help blocking for his QBs, b) screen passes and dump-offs. In our older versions of NT offense, the TE was an integral part of the passing game, but not in Linehan's offense...

Hopefully, he'll be used more in the passing game under Mularkey. He had a less than stellar year, but it was due as much for the way he was utilized as it was for any issues he had catching the ball...

good post, IMO the #1 reason his numbers werent what they could have been.

Now he will have a Qb that can actually get him the ball. Just the presence of Pep will make people respect our passing game, which will open up the running game, which will make opposing defenses not know who to cover, leaving McMike to have an incredible season.

I sort of agree with you but not to the same extreme. Randy is one of those fan darlings who can do no wrong although he's done quite a bit wrong. I think he's an above average TE but needs to be more consistant to make it into the top tier for TE's. Some say he is there, I say you have low standards. Wiggins hauled in 71 passes with DC at QB and Linehan as OC with Moss and company. I guarantee 90% of the fans here think RM is better than Wiggins. I guess we will see if DC has the same kind of faith in him as he had in JW. Time will tell.

yeah, i'd probablly say that has to affect a player. w/the whole court thing, homelife out of whack, just like jamal lewis after he got out of prison. he had an awful year last year. i'd probablly have to imagine if he stops beating his wife, and has a normal home life, he can start developing more consistency on the playing field, and not have to worry about going to court tomorrow for this, talking to his wife's lawyer about that. i dont know the details, wether their back together or not, but theres alot that goes into personal problems that can take a toll on you mentally.

A lot of people want to compare McMichael to the best TE's (Gonzalez, Gates, even Heap) but they fail to realize what the teams those guys are on have in common.... No decent wideouts!
If San Diego had a good receiver, Gates wouldn't be having 1,000 yard seasons with like 15 TD's. He's their only real threat on the field. Same goes for Gonzalez, Kansas City might just have the weakest receiving corps in the league.

McMike possible Pro Bowl Year?

Don't worry about McMike. He now has a TE-friendly QB on the roster. Culpepper's favorite target the last 2 years was Jermaine Wiggins. He made Wiggins a top 5 TE in fantasy football drafts. Wiggins was a journeyman TE - spending time with 5 teams in 5 years....before breaking out with 71 receptions his first year in Minnesota. Advantage McMichael.

i was disappointed in the beginning of the season......seemed like he fumbled after EVERY reception
