Who is this Randy Mueller fellow anyway? Two years ago the Miami Dolphins ex-coach Nick Saban fired then GM Rick Speilman, and shortly after hired Mueller to a short term contract.

Mueller Started out as a ball boy for the Seattle Seahawks in the mid 80's, and since then he has worked his way up through the NFL's front office's. Its unclear to me when Mueller was given full power with the seattle seahawks, but i'm willing to guess it was around 1995. He left the Seahawks after the 99 season for the New Orleans Saints. In 2000 Mueller was named Executive of the Year.

We all have our questions about Mueller. What his draft preference? Offense or Defense? What does he look for in a player? Can he handle the GM power responsibly? I dont intend to prove or disprove his GM abilities, but I feel we could all use some light on this man that, most of us know very little about.

The following will be every draft pick that Mueller has been a part of.

Tidbit from Mr. Majestik. My mistake for missing this information.
Mueller did not draft Lamar King, Mike Holmgren did. Holmgren took over personnel in 1999 when he was hired. Mueller was still on the payroll, but he wasn't making the decisions anymore. Secondly, Mueller was in charge of the Saints' draft in 2002, he was fired on May 9, 2002 for reasons that are still not clear. He drafted Charles Grant, Donte Stallworth and LeCharles Bentley that year.

looking at these draft picks, several things have to jump out at you about the kind of draft strategist Randy Mueller is. First off, he doesnt favor one side of the ball over the other. He's drafted 20 defensive players, 18 offensive players, and 1 specific special teamer in a long snapper. Secondly, Hes very good at drafting Offensive lineman. With picks like Pete Kendall, Walter Jones, and Todd Weiner, he's proven that he can build a solid O-line through the draft. Thirdly, He's pretty bad at drafting DE. Just look at everyone hes drafted. Its a sad list.

Now, going off of the information shown above, heres how i think Mueller will draft.
1. Ted Ginn Jr., WR Ohio State - Ginns speed is exactly what Mueller LOVES to see in WR's. If Ginns on the board, i cannot imagine Mueller passing on him. Especially with a new offensive minded coach in Cameron coming into town.
2. Joe Staley, T UCM - This is a monster tackle, and Muellers shown a good ability to find lineman in the draft. Staley is a monster, whose only 'flaws; are that he hasnt played the position very long and he needs to bulk up. If those are his biggest concerns, he's in for a great NFL career.
3. Johnathan Wade, CB Tennessee - had a solid senior season, plus he's turned heads this week as one of the better corners in this draft class. It's possible he wont be there at this pick. Mueller will take him if hes still there. if he's not, i'd look for DE.
4. Jordan Palmer, QB UTEP - A big tall QB, strong arm, and a proven pedigree. He'd be a good pick inthe 4th round if Cameron insists on a QB.
6. Chase Pittman, DE/OLB LSU - Not the greatest athlete in the world, but could become a solid OLB.
7. Justin Vincent, RB LSU - 1,000 yard back as a true freshman. plagued by injuries ever since, but can really play the game well.

Maybe all i've done is raise more questions, rather then give answers. However, Mueller is a good GM. He's proven that he can provide solid QBs when the teams he works for need them. he can handle the player side of the game, and he is more then capable of handling the business side of it too. We're lucky he's here.

dude LAMAR KING! he is freaking awsome. I totally trust Mueller now!

:shakeno: crap! we might be in trouble

Lamar King was awesome!!! Wait, who in the bleep is Lamar King??:sidelol: :sidelol:

Mueller is pretty bad at drafting DEs? Since he's only drafted 2 on the first day, I wouldn't really say he's bad just that the needs were in other areas. Besides, the last one he drafted (Darren Howard) is pretty damn good.

Maybe he passes on Ginn, Jr if someone is higher on the board at the time or someone offers something good in the way of a trade.
Joe Staley's biggest concern is his lack of upper body strength which I think he can gain over time.

A few bad picks and he is now a crappy GM?:shakeno:

you call Joey Galloway, Pete Kendall, Shawn Springs, Anthony Simmons, LAMAR KING!, and Darren Howard a few bad picks! for the 1st round thats really bad

Ignorance is a disease, and I'm the cure.

To call Joey Galloway a bad first round pick is breathtaking in its stupidity. He's had over a thousand-yards receiving five times in his career. He's had double-digit touchdowns three times in his career. He's averaged 15.6 ypr. He has 612 receptions for nearly 10,000 yards and 71 touchdowns. He's still a starting wide receiver 11-years after entering the NFL. Shawn Springs was one of the best cover corners in the league until he couldn't stay healthy. He's been to Pro Bowls, how is that not a good first-round pick? Pete Kendall is a damn good guard. He's been a starter his entire 11-year NFL career. Darren Howard (drafted in the second-round, not the first) has averaged seven sacks a season for his career, compare that to Justin Smith, drafted fourth overall, and soon to be franchised by the Cincinnati Bengals--six sacks a season. Any first round pick still starting a decade after they were drafted into the league was a great pick. 1/3 of all first-round picks are out of the league five-years after they were selected. Three guys drafted in the top ten five-years ago are no longer in the NFL: David Terrell, Koren Robinson and Jamal Reynolds. So before you start wasting bandwidth do yourself a favor and refrain from commenting on what you obviously have no knowledge of.

Joey Galloway - several 1000 yard seasons

Darren Howard was the 33rd pick...if you cant figure it out, thats 2nd round. (Technically, )

Pete Kendall has been a very solid guard for most his career. no hes never been steve hutchinson, but hes been very good.

Lamar king wasnt drafted by Mueller.

Shawn Springs was considered one of the top 5 corners for awhile in the 90's. Granted he was always overrated and injury prone, but hes a good player nonetheless.

If you think those guys are really bad you should find yourself a new hobby.

Fool.
His draft history is very good, especially in the first few rounds. It seems as if he can make solid picks in the first few rounds but not too many gems in the later rounds. Overall, however, fairly impressive.

Looking at that list, the talent Mueller has found is wonderful in my opinion. Bulger, McCallister, Galloway, Jones, Shawn Springs...he seems to have a good eye. I have much more confidence knowing that he will be helping run things than the Nicktator. Saban simply seemed to pick guys in his old college conference because he proudly thought it had the toughest players. I think that we will get some good guys, some diamonds in the rough, and as usual a few won't work out. Looking at Mueller's history, though, the guys that work out will REALLLLLLY work out. I'm excited! :)
