Who is this Randy Mueller fellow anyway? Two years ago the Miami Dolphins ex-coach Nick Saban fired then GM Rick Speilman, and shortly after hired Mueller to a short term contract.
Mueller Started out as a ball boy for the Seattle Seahawks in the mid 80's, and since then he has worked his way up through the NFL's front office's. Its unclear to me when Mueller was given full power with the seattle seahawks, but i'm willing to guess it was around 1995. He left the Seahawks after the 99 season for the New Orleans Saints. In 2000 Mueller was named Executive of the Year.
We all have our questions about Mueller. What his draft preference? Offense or Defense? What does he look for in a player? Can he handle the GM power responsibly? I dont intend to prove or disprove his GM abilities, but I feel we could all use some light on this man that, most of us know very little about.
The following will be every draft pick that Mueller has been a part of.

Tidbit from Mr. Majestik. My mistake for missing this information.
looking at these draft picks, several things have to jump out at you about the kind of draft strategist Randy Mueller is. First off, he doesnt favor one side of the ball over the other. He's drafted 20 defensive players, 18 offensive players, and 1 specific special teamer in a long snapper. Secondly, Hes very good at drafting Offensive lineman. With picks like Pete Kendall, Walter Jones, and Todd Weiner, he's proven that he can build a solid O-line through the draft. Thirdly, He's pretty bad at drafting DE. Just look at everyone hes drafted. Its a sad list.
Now, going off of the information shown above, heres how i think Mueller will draft.
1. Ted Ginn Jr., WR Ohio State - Ginns speed is exactly what Mueller LOVES to see in WR's. If Ginns on the board, i cannot imagine Mueller passing on him. Especially with a new offensive minded coach in Cameron coming into town.
2. Joe Staley, T UCM - This is a monster tackle, and Muellers shown a good ability to find lineman in the draft. Staley is a monster, whose only 'flaws; are that he hasnt played the position very long and he needs to bulk up. If those are his biggest concerns, he's in for a great NFL career.
3. Johnathan Wade, CB Tennessee - had a solid senior season, plus he's turned heads this week as one of the better corners in this draft class. It's possible he wont be there at this pick. Mueller will take him if hes still there. if he's not, i'd look for DE.
4. Jordan Palmer, QB UTEP - A big tall QB, strong arm, and a proven pedigree. He'd be a good pick inthe 4th round if Cameron insists on a QB.
6. Chase Pittman, DE/OLB LSU - Not the greatest athlete in the world, but could become a solid OLB.
7. Justin Vincent, RB LSU - 1,000 yard back as a true freshman. plagued by injuries ever since, but can really play the game well.
Maybe all i've done is raise more questions, rather then give answers. However, Mueller is a good GM. He's proven that he can provide solid QBs when the teams he works for need them. he can handle the player side of the game, and he is more then capable of handling the business side of it too. We're lucky he's here.

Mueller did not draft Lamar King, Mike Holmgren did. Holmgren took over personnel in 1999 when he was hired. Mueller was still on the payroll, but he wasn't making the decisions anymore. Secondly, Mueller was in charge of the Saints' draft in 2002, he was fired on May 9, 2002 for reasons that are still not clear. He drafted Charles Grant, Donte Stallworth and LeCharles Bentley that year.
