This is something I typically look at every year and thought I'd share. I gathered these through Yahoo Sports' roster listings. I listed the number of players listed on the Yahoo rosters. Obviously these ages will change a little when they cut down to 53 men. One thing I noticed is that UDFAs are not listed on the rosters. Draft picks are listed, though. UDFAs rarely make the roster anyway.

Total rank is a combination of Age Rank and Mileage Rank. Green Bay was the youngest team in the league a year ago and they still are...by a pretty fair margin age-wise. Miami use to be around the 2nd or 3rd youngest team. They're getting a little older. I think this is just natural age progression of the young players they added a year ago.

We added Jason Taylor but cut Vonnie Holliday. That made it about neutral.

The roster has gotten a little older compared with last year, but mostly organically. The core of the roster as it was added one year ago, have all gotten a year older together.

True, but the other teams core rosters would've ALSO gotten one year older together, so that should be a neutral impact as well.

Not necessarily. The Dolphins did a lot less roster destruction than a year ago, and less than a lot of other teams. A year ago the Dolphins destroyed half the roster and re-shaped it. Some teams, such as St. Louis, have undertaken a little bit of that themselves this year.

Were only going to get younger next year. Jason Taylor, Jason Ferguson, Akin Ayodele, David Martin and Chad Pennington will likely all be gone after the 09 season. Joey Porter is not far behind them. Luckily Pennington's replacement(s) are already on the roster and Fasano is the starting TE anyway so we only get younger by default.

The other guys represent what most of us consider to be our top needs heading into the 2010 offseason, in terms of needing youth. All those guys are expected to contribute this year but eventually were going to need a stud MLB, OLB and NT.

Thats whats really exciting, were still rebuilding while already being quite built, if you know what I mean.

We'll see but I don't think the roster will get significantly younger next year, if at all.

There is a place on every roster for experienced veterans. They should always be a part of your locker room.

Depending on how important one thinks this is (the avg. age/experience difference between first and last place is around 1.5 years), it suggests that the Colts, Dolphins, and possibly Texans are the future of the AFC. In other words, these are the teams that have demonstrated recent success (a foundation to build off of plus a winning culture in place) AND are the youngest.

But while this is great news from the standpoint of us being young, I probably don't get to read as much into the numbers as I'd like to. :)

The Jets are probably not as old as they appear because they only have three draft picks reducing their team age.

The Pats had 400 picks are are even older then they appear.

Having a mix of old and young players has to be the way to go. If the team was all 20 year olds, they'd probably all be arrested for banging chicks at brothels all along South Beach. They need to be taught the ropes

It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.
