That's eye opening, all of a sudden all those top draft picks aren't quite as valuable as they might be for another team.

Trading picks for young, proven veterans might actually be a better value if we're not crushing it in the draft...

If that's your overall philosophy, you will find yourself in cap hell, with perennial mediocrity......if you are lucky.

Free agency is one tool, effective for certain purposes. Drafting is the foundation.

Naa its not my philosophy, just a not so subtle hint that the picks we would give up for a Watson trade are less likely to turn into elite players if we spend them in the draft ourselves...

Honestly though, unless I misread that report being in the bottom 6 for all our rookies is pretty awful...

I have never understood the PFF ratings. It appears some nerds put data into a computer and out pops the BS they post. Obviously they don’t watch the games and actually see how the rookies developed over the season. Nor do they seem to take into consideration the talent or lack of talent Tua had around him compared to Burrow and Herbert.

Didn't Burrow play on the team that was the worst in the league coming into this season?

"Quarterback Joe Burrow (No. 1 overall) finished the 2020 NFL season as the second-most valuable first-round rookie,"

Well, I don't put much credibility in PFF to begin with, but I Aalso don't believe you can accurately assess a draft after year one under the best circumstances, let alone the fiasco of an almost nonexistent offseason.

If we then factor in that three of our picks were Oline, who all started multiple games, and have a very good chance to make a big sophmore leap, I don't see it as a big fail at this point.

Let's look at it from a little different perspective.

At times, we had three linemen, Tua, Bowden (wasn't our pick, but part of the rookie class), Davis and Jones all playing significant snaps in their rookie years.

Show me another team that comes anywhere close to that.

Personally, I'll wait until the end of next season to judge.

For all we know, despite his detractors, Iggy may be a stud in the making as well. I'm not counting on it, but not dismissing the possibility either.

That's the flaw in their system, and it's way too early anyway.

They rank flash and stats, rather than the realty of team concepts and things like assignment responsibility.

PFF used to be fairly close to reality in rankings. Last 2-4 years some of their analysis has been WAY off.
That said, all rankings of '20 rookies are measuring two things - comparison to other rookies and speed of acclimation to the NFL. The list of HOFrs who were mediocre or less in their rookie years is nearly endless.

Damn 28th with 3 1st round and 2 second round picks even

ouch
You watch a lot of ball.

Where do you rank them?

I realize it's really too early, but I think it could ultimately end up being much better than the PFF article suggests.

I think the first round assessment is spot on

the qb wasn’t good and tbe left tackle wasn’t good but there’s meat on the bone with both. Make no mistake about it though they both need to take a leap next year.

igbo needs to crack the top 3 rotation too at cb. Needhams warts showed up again late this season.

best pick in the class imo is probably Brandon jones in terms of where they got him and how he played.

Totally understandable take by PFF, but the mitigating factors of no TC and the constant covid protocols, remote video coaching, they all show promise. The coaching staff seems to be a good 'teaching' staff and that is a big change from what we are used too around here. I see promise in the picks that a year in the training room may reveal, not to mention a year of trial by fire that most were subject too. Yea, I know nobody had a TC...

That bills grade seems a little high to me everything they drafted looks like depth to me. Maybe at some point moss starts or Gabriel davis starts but neither is irreplaceable pretty easy to fill in with.

most these higher classes are carried by one dude Miami could put a serious dent in these rankings with just one guy elevating to a plus level in 2021. Of course if tua doesn’t do it the grades always gonna be hammered and rightfully so. It’s a top 5 pick at the most important position in sports. he’s got to hit
