Ranking the Dolphins Positional Offseason Upgrades

I would add the coaching staff. The coaching seems to be clearly better on both sides. Having Madison and Surtain on defense should easily make up for losing Coleman (they might be able resurrect Iggy). Any non-two-headed offensive coach would have been an upgrade. We are clearly better.

I agree with the coaching staff point, they seem engaged and energetic. Guys respond to that, how much? That answer is a waiting game at this point. But it seems (hindsight 20/20) they wanted to be patriots south.

Issue was the patriots had tremendous coordinators and staff. McDaniels is a great o-coordinator not to mention the best O line coach maybe ever and BB runs the defense but has good staff around him.

Just having a system and picking guys doesn’t work you need to have the guys to help build the position and the player not just assume they would work

The other decent upgrade that gets zero attention is the signing of Fullback, Alec Ingold. Newsflash.... we now have a FB and he's not just here because he looks good in the showers. The Mike McDaniel Offense incorporates a fullback to assist the running game.

If he can’t blossom under Surtain and Madison then he has no chance.

We need this kid to be something!
I don't have a lot of hope for the guy at this point, but where would he get snaps anyway? He's behind X and Byron Jones, two very good corners, on the outside and Needham as the slot cover, which is a tough job in this scheme.

Our heavy DB packages usually feature Safeties with Holland, Brandon Jones, and Rowe + Baker LB and Phillips/AVG at edge.

Unless there is an injury, I don't see him getting many opportunities and even then there is competition with guys like Trill Williams.

You're absolutely right. But he's a 1st round pick investment. You can't have him on the bench.

What are you going to do though? There is no gain in cutting him unless the staff feels there is absolutely no hope, and he is a wasted roster spot. He has no trade value whatsoever, unless we eat his dead money.

It is what it is. Hopefully a fresh look by the new coaches can turn him around, though Boyer obviously already knows the kid.

Pretty much agree with all that. Maybe just the Coleman analyses of playing very well. I mean I thought he was alright, but not a big loss.

If not for what it would cost them to cut him, I don’t think Iggy would still be on the roster. You can’t play him if he is a detriment to the defense, no matter if he was a first round pick or not.
Nearly 30% of all first round picks turn out to be busts. Unfortunately I think Iggy has a much greater chance to end up in that 30% than to become a productive player for the Dolphins.

Any chance Iggy blossoms?
I still say draft a corner this year to compete for that #4 corner spot. If Iggy does blossom, then great. Maybe we don’t need a corner next offseason. But I wouldn’t go into this season with the assumption he will do that
