Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland gave a rare interview Thursday to a representative from each of the three major newspapers in the Tri-County area and finally admitted what Dolphins fans have seen all along, that he is disappointed in the play of free agent acquisition receiver Ernest Wilford.

Good points - Patrick Cobbs performance is why Parmele and Hillard can't get on the field.

- Bill Parcells gives him total freedom in personel.

- Davis was cut because of Hill's injury healing.

- Didn't discuss Williams 8.1 mil bonus, saying it's between the club and him. (I bet as long as Ricky stays and plays and doesn't smoke it's forgiven)

- Justin Smiley played his best game Sunday, but has a long way to go.

Finally, Ireland wouldn't dare put a won-loss figure on his hopes for this season but that he wants to form a very good evaluation at the end of the year so he knows what the needs are in free agency and the draft.
"I want to have a clear and concise evaluation of this team and where we're going in next year's free agency and next year's draft. To win some games along the way would be nice, too.''

This was a great coup getting him from the Cowboys. He is young and hopefully will be here a long, long time.

i enjoyed reading that and firmly believe that Ireland's going to be a really good GM for us.....

I tell you what, if he keeps drafting in the first three rounds like he did this year...he'll be just fine. Kendall Langford might be scary good. Jake Long is indeed a Jumbo Elliott...ALREADY, as a rookie. Phil Merling is a pretty good player himself. And damn do I wish Donald Thomas would have stayed healthy.

Who were our other draft picks? Oh, yeah...Shawn Murphy, Lex Hilliard, Jalen Parmele, Lionel Dotson...we'll just forget about those guys. :)

Got a decent UDFA in Davone Bess though.

Add in free agent signings like Starks, Smiley, Charlie Anderson, Ndukwe and via trade... Fasano, Ayodele, Pennington and Ferguson and you have a solid addition of talent.

Ireland is great. I like the communication between the Trifecta. Those 3 have unique relationships and fit pretty well.

Long, Merling, Langford and Thomas, all potentially big time contributers. Throw in Henne and thats a solid draft to start the rebuild. Then Ireland jumps on the phone and has Davone (Spiderman) Bess in a Dolphin jersey. Not to mention signing Smiley at 12:01 am. I already expect a lot of quality from next years 1, 2A, 2B and 3rd rd pick.

Great hire! Maybe our most underrated Offseason Aquisition. I think FinFans celebrate Parcells too much and don't truly how appreciate how big a get Ireland was from Dallas.

I found the last part very interesting. Parcells and Ireland really could care less if we go 8-8 or 4-12 this year. They want to see who they have, who to get rid of, and stuff like that. If we have another draft like this past one, and we hit on some free agents(ashomagu!) , I think were going to have a playoff contending football team. It might take another year or two for the team to come together but I can picture it now. .....

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Jeff Ireland is an absolute buffoon of a GM. He should be a scout with zero decision making powers, and should definitely not be allowed to say anything to the press.

if we can get 4 good players out of every draft, I'll be very excited.

Im used to getting 0-1.
