My opinion for what it's worth is that WR is beyond a normal need, it's a crying need. We are soaked in mediocrity at the position. If Ginn can settle in at #3 option and kickoff returner for the next couple of years, great. But we need "the man." Braylon Edwards- might have been worth a shot, maybe not. But the dude was a stud at 24, just what the doctor ordered for our team IF he could bring it again. Big if, but I commend the Jets balls and acumen in getting a stud QB in Sanchez and #1 WR for so little in return, and he's only 26.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread is WR's for next year, draft and FA. How do you rank them, who do you prefer?
I'd have to say Dez Bryant #1, just about the entire package- size, go-to guy, pretty good quicks, strength, hands. Reminds me of Boldin with more speed and explosion. But at the same time I wouldn't by any means say top shelf speed and quicks. I don't know what his 40 time is, but to me Aurelius Benn looks faster.
Aurelius Benn- maybe the most intriguing to me. I see everything there, even moreso than Bryant. Size, pure speed, quicks, strength, looks like he has soft hands, too. He still seems like more of a gamble than Bryant, less of a sure thing. But talentwise, this dude has it in spades. I'm basically focusing on speed though, and maybe that's a disservice to Bryant. It's not like Bryant is slow by any means, I just see more pure speed in Benn.
Brandon Lafell- very good, but does he have the explosion to warrant a #1 pick? Love his size, hands look good, but Ireally don't know, I haven't been blown away by what I've seen. Looking forward to seeing LSU tomorrow against UF, should be a good test for Lafell.
Decker- like him, but not sure that he's what we need in terms of a #1- we already have a Hartline type, but Decker is good, no doubt.
Damian Williams- shifty, excellent route runner, but is he the #1 that we need? Not so sure, need to see more of him, too.
My best guess is that I would pull the trigger on Bryant or Benn with our first, I'm not so sure about Lafell, need to see more. Be it draft or FA, I do think that it's time for us to step up to the plate and fill a drastic need. Just my opinion, Curious as to yours- not sure what's out there in FA, bring it on.
Anyone have feedback on Mike Williams? Haven't seen Syracuse play this year.
