Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair is retiring from the NFL after a 13-year career in which he was named co-MVP and led the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl.

McNair told teammates of his decision during an emotional meeting Thursday morning before the launch of coach John Harbaugh's first minicamp.

The 35-year-old McNair guided the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But he injured his groin during the season opener last season and never regained the form that enabled him to earn a berth in four Pro Bowls.

great QB who will never get the credit he deserves. He gave everything he had but injuries really robbed him. One of those players that was better than his stats. Tough, accurate, could run, was a playmaker. Very lucky to have seen his game for those four or five years where he was arguably in the top three of the league

The guy was a true warrior. Glad he's getting out of it while he can still walk. Best of luck, Steve.

matt ryan is officially not passing th enumber 8 spot in the draft.. maybe well play him and chris long will sack em woo woo!

Is McNair a Hall of Famer?

Here's a question, does anybody think McNair makes it in to the Hall of Fame?

One SB appearance, 0-1
Passed for 31,304 yards and 174 TD
Ran for 3,500 yards and 35 TD
QB rating 82.8, completed 60.1%
One MVP, 4 Pro Bowls
Played 13 seasons, starter for 9 seasons, started 153 games
Best season was 2003: #1 in QB rating (100.4), #1 in yards/completion (12.9), #1 in yards/attempt (8.0)

I don't think he gets in with his numbers (he only ranks 28th in yards passing) and is hurt by playing his entire career on run-orinted ball-possession type teams. It doesn't help that the Titans fell one yard short of winning the Super Bowl against the Rams. I think too much emphasis is placed on winning the Super Bowl when it comes to the HOF, but even if they had won I doubt he'd get in.

I dont think McNair will get in, his numbers aren't good enough for the QB's with no rings who are in. He was a great player though, and health permitting he probably would have been a hall of famer. That guy played with every injury imaginable.

McNair was one of those players that showed the flaws of using stats to gauge a person's ability. He was much more than his stats. Sadly, he wont be in the HOF but probably more due to the injuries
