Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis underwent season-ending surgery on his torn right hamstring Wednesday, concluding a frustrating year in which he played in only six games.

Lewis has been sidelined since Oct. 23, when he left in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Chicago Bears. The two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year worked hard to return from the injury, but finally decided surgery was the best route.

The operation was performed in south Florida.

"It was the right thing to do. It gives him the maximum rehab time, multiple opinions," Ravens coach Brian Billick said Wednesday. "He sought them all, we sought them all. It was great that we were able to come to a resolution. I'm sure he's comfortable with it."

"OVER RATED!, OVER RATED!"

Sorry, Ray but over the last few years you've been slipping. Your name is bigger than your play, your reputation is all that makes you considered a quality MLB anymore. Maybe it was that Madden Curse

ill tell u one thing he is not over rated.if ur calling him over rated call seau over rated.seau is in his same situation.they are hurt and it is killing them.when ray is on the field he is unbelievable.when seau is he is too.

Lewis is a great leader but at this point in time (and to be honest, the last 3 seasons) he is irrelevent as a player. All the guy does is fall on the pile.

If is was'nt for the bluster, the after play jumping around and the pregame dancing crap the guy would be forgotten.

He is best at stabbing the opponent....

The last 3 seasons are 03/04/this season. Ray Lewis was Defensive Player of the Year in 03. Let's face it, Ray Lewis is still a beast and still the best. He played 15 games last year (16 the year before and has played at least 14, 8 out of 10 years) and was a big reason Ed Reed won the award (and I think he's a big reason why Ed Reed is who he is although I think he would have been good without Lewis, not great). Things are sour in Baltimore and it looks like there's going to be change. The Ravens suck and Ray is hurt, that's why it looks like he's falling off but he's only 30, at the very least he has 2 or 3 more years of dominance left and as soon as the Ravens get an offense (something they haven't had even when they were winning) you will just how good Ray Ray is!
