hey guys I heard a good story on qb Ray Lucas yesterday. Former miami tightends Coach Pat Jones was telling a good story on Ray Lucas and how a they were in a team metting and Ray got up in front of the team and he pointed at Todd Wade and said " I haven't met you and I dont know your name yet but i have your back " the entire meeting roam was taken aback by his comments that the players really like playing with him and one player said it wasnt Ray's fault for the fins losing those games .

the jest of it is that Ray was a west coast offense type being forced into a role that he wasnt sutied for . but one of our wr's said Ray tried too hard to make the big plays instead of focusing on just making the plays .

so with that in mind I cant help to ponder whether our offensive coordinator should have been to blame or whether our wrs got more credit when our offense had sucsees and were given a free pass when our qb's struggled.
meaning I think Ray could have been more sucessful if our wrs could get open more . the players really liked him and he played well in practice but in games he couldnt get the job done.
I wonder if maybe we all were expecting too much from our qbs from Feidler on down to Joey Harrington.

I think we do give our wrs too much credit at times wea re too hard on our qbs due to Dan's sucess but anyways my thoughts on Ray's lack of success could be inept play calling and that he tried too hard to please the fans.
anyways when i heard this story i thought i would share it.
I know he was a bad qb but was it due to the stuff I already mentioned or were our wrs overrated.?
I like to ponder whether a qb could have been better then what they were before and after they were playing for miami.

Anybody playing under Wanstetd should be considered as a victim of bad coaching

that bills game was all lucas tho..i still remember those damn ints

Lucas was an athelete, not a QB. He couldn't even throw a swing pass. He couldn't put any touch on the ball.

I don't think the offensive scheme has anything to do with fumbles or throwing inaccuracy. Lucas was just not that good.

If anything WE are the victims for letting him ever put a Miami Dolphin uniform on.

Honestly i think its a combination of being not talented and Incompetant coaching.

Anyone that was not named fiedler was going to fail here and wannstedt was going to make sure of it.

We should have given Sage a shot that year. Sure he had never started a game, but it became quickly apparent that Lucas should never start a game again.

I agree. I remember that first game sage started, it was against the ravens, or colts but his first pass was a long bomb he completed. He never got that chance he should of.

Ray Lucas was never great, but he performed pretty well for a half season with the Jets. In 9 games he was 14 TDs 6 INT 1650 yds. Not great numbers, but not bad at all.

He provided some decent offensive production and had very good chemisty with Keyshawn & Curtis Martin. Parcells actually liked Lucas, but said he looked "wormy" and needed to get into the weight room

Lucas went to my school, rutgers.. and did well... he also did well for the jets, i dont know what it was but he just blew it for the dolphins.

A. Wannstedt was his coach

B. His shoulder was hurt a LOT worse than he and Wanny let on

C. Chambers and Gadsden both missed games in which he started. Oh yeah, James McKnight was the other receiver.

D. Wannstedt was his coach.

Lucas was a team player and played really hurt while keeping his mouth shut. He never deflected his criticisms. He was a scapegoat for Wannstedt's bumbling at head coach.

Really???

Ray Lucas was a victim of bad genes. I curse every game he played as our QB.
