Ray Lucas

wasn't that the year Chambers got rocked by Kennedy and got the concussion? If so, that left us a recieving corp of McNugget, Chris Carter(who joined us mid season), and I don't even remember who else (Gadz was gone, DT came the next year...if you think of anybody just say the name).

I do remember that that was Randy's rookie year. He was tearing it up early in the year, but once Fiedler went down, it seemed like RMac never got the ball the rest of the year.
Yup, that was the year that Chambers got the concussion from Kenoy Kennedy. Jay Fiedler, Chris Chambers, and Oronde Gadsen all got injured that and sadly enough the Fiedler injury hurt us more than anything and cost us playoffs because of Ray Lucas's performance. Our Wide Receivers that I remember were I believe James McKnight, Dedric Ward, Cris Carter, and John Ogden I believe. I'm pretty sure I'm missing someone. We also Desmond Clark and Robert Edwards I believe. But yeah, I remember the next game we were without our starting QB (and believe or not Fiedler was having an INCREDIBLE year and if he never got injured... hell I wouldn't count Pro Bowl out... he was at his best that year and we should've won division and been a Super Bowl contender that year and would've if not for the injury of Jay Fiedler or the horrible performance by Ray Lucas). But anyway after the Denver game, we played Buffalo and Lucas had I believe 4 INT's and 2 lost fumbles. 6 TURNOVERS all in all. God... 2002 was our best year in the longest time and we went 9-7 and if not for the injuries from the Denver miracle game, we would've went AT LEAST at the VERY VERY VERY least.... 11-5 but if you also count the last two games losing to Minny by 3 and NE by 3... we would've went 13-3 easily. Call me crazy, but I really think if we made playoffs we would have made it to the AFC Championship and beaten Oakland and VS'd Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl.

well..... unfortunately I can answer the question as to "where's Ray Lucas" I saw that on CSTV they were having a college football preview... and Ray is an analyst on that network. I just wonder what is he analyzing..... the best way for a QB to throw INT's and lose a game by himself?

I agree with everything you said and have felt the same way many times. That team started out as something special, and it's not just that we were winning the games, we had the look of a great team. We really collapsed that year, and even though we had a better record in 2003, that team never looked special. Even our o-line was doing some things in 2002, at least in the running game. As for the recievers, I don't remember Ogden being there, but I think we had Albert Johnson and Robert Baker, who made one catch.

I agree with everything you said. If you think about, that year really ended Jay's career here. Lucas got hurt in the 2nd Buffalo game, and instead of going to Sage, Wanny sent an injured Fiedler out onto the field. I remember every analyst criticizing Wanny because it was atleast 2 weeks too early for Jay to come back.

I think Jay started the next week and I think we won against somebody. But I agree, Fiedler actually threw an interception that I don't blame him for, because he couldn't grip the ball and he threw an absolute floater. He almost laughed afterwards cause it was just a "what do you expect?" moment. We should have easily won that game, I don't think a team ever lost a game where an RB got over 200 like we did.

ah yes, who can ever forget the guy that hadn't played QB in college, was made into a "slash" player, and Wanny makes him into our backup QB.

And Jaj, his stats might have looked good, but I remember watching every game he started that year (main one being the Jets' game) and wondering why we had him in there. I never thought I'd say this, but I think Jay could have led us to wins in a couple of those games. (BTW does anybody else find it weird that since 2002 we've had Jay,Ray, and AJ as our QBs?)
You must be thinking about somebody else having not played QB in college, because Ray Lucas most certainly did. Either that or Rutgers ran an awful lot of option passes for him :) Just check the link below. He was 4th all-time in Rutgers history for passing yards.

he's making music....

Also, for the original poster's question as to what is Ray doing now, one thing is he was an announcer for some of the NFLE games.

As bad as he was for you I think he'd be in heavy competition to start w/ the other 2 this year :D
