I was curious, and I've been trying to figure out just exactly what kind of RB we have in Ronnie Brown. The tail of the tape reads that he was drafted #2 overall, he was a major bruiser in college, he had great hands / speed, and was a monster at the NFL combine prior to draft day. All things at the time were pointing to a sure fire, soon to be super-star RB in Miami.....

Needless to say, I was extremely pleased with the pick, and was certain that our running game would eventually become one of the best in the league with Brown now on board. The future was starting to show positive signs, and I had very high expectations for Brown, afterall he was drafted at #2 overall....

Guys like Tomlinson / Johnson / Barber / Alexander / Lewis / and Jackson all crossed my mind when I would try and imagine what kind of RB Brown would eventually become for Miami. The problem is that after two seasons, I still haven't figured out what kind of RB R. Brown will eventually mold into....

My honest opinion of Brown, is that he hasn't even come close to living up to his draft hype / status. He has very little vision, no break away speed, he's inconsistant, and now we can also consider him an injury prone RB. He has all the tools to be one of the NFL's newest elite backs, and he's being paid like one of them too, but where are the results? His supposed talent is too great to be putting up such average numbers in my opinion...

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but personally, I expected a hell of a lot more from our #2 draft pick RB R. Brown. Maybe he's just a late bloomer, that's always a good possibility, but I'm also tired of waiting. I'm not giving up on Brown by any means, or calling him a bust. However, in 2007 I expect to see a different Brown, the one that plays up to his true skills....

I know this may not be a very popular topic with many of the fans here, but I was tired of reading all of the re-threads, and felt this would be someting everyone could have an opinion on. So, in answering my question, what were the majority of the fans expecting when we drafted Brown, and has he lived up to your own personal expectations....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I too am somewhat disappointed. However, my disappointment is also tempered by the fact we have sucha rotton O-line. I'm not sure many runningbacks would be able to 'live up to their potential' behind the line Ronnie has run behind the last two seasons.

Ronnie Brown had to carry a player or two over his shoulder just to get 10 yards a couple of times this season. You're not going to see him explode untill they fix the offensive line problems.

A 1300 to 1400 back, if he can stay healthy, which he has not done in his first two years.

I basically agree with him. I did expect somewhat more but this offensive line you cannot expect a whole lot.

A good back....but not a great back.
Good, because in his 2nd year, he's not suppose to be a great back, just a good back.

Great is for hall of famers, and that takes more than just 2 seasons in this league.

Well the silver lining is he is the best back out of the TOP 3 so far performance wise with both seasons accounted for. Gore might get the nod as the best back out fo the whole draft when it comes down to it.

I still believe he will end up being an Ahmad Green type back ....

Good, powerful, but not elusive, great or elite ...

Unfortunately, that is the flip-side of having Ricky around .... Ronnie will try to emulate his style -- which up to now at least ... he can't -- or at least he can't replicate the results ....

I think Brown is like another former Auburn RB. He reminds me of Rudi Johnson, not too flashy, but grinds out yards and catches well out of the backfield, better than Rudi does even. The problem: we don't have an O-line like Cincy has.

Injury prone? It was a freak injury! How can something like that make a player injury prone? He didn't miss any games because of his groin injury.

1. I disagree that he has little vision. I've stated on this board repeatedly that this is a cop-out criticism. Ronnie's vision is fine. I've seen him hit the hole (when there actually is a hole to hit) and I've seen him find nice cutback lanes.

2. Ronnie has gotten caught from behind. That is true, but don't say he has NO breakaway speed.

3. I disagree that he is inconsistant. His yardage totals may not be consistant, but he consistantly breaks the first tackle. Sometimes that first tackle attempt occurs before he gets back to the line of scrimmage, sometimes its one or two yards downfield. But you ALWAYS see him breaking tackles and dragging several men downfield.

4. I don't think you can tag this guy as injury-prone. Now, we all have different definitions of injury prone, but the guy missed ONE GAME last year. This year, he broke his hand. I'm sorry, but anyone can break a bone in their hand on any play in the NFL. Ronnie has missed 2 games in his career thus far. Ronnie is not injury-prone. You are totally reaching here.

I didn't say injury prone, just that he has not stayed healthy in his first two years.

Its hard to have "vision" when you get hit in the backfield on half your carries. Edgerrin James is considered a great back. Look what he has done this year.

Only the freaks like Barry Sanders, Ladanian and Tiki have the ability to be great backs without help. Decent backs like Emmitt Smith become great if they have great offensive lines and weapons around them. Our O-line is not good even though it has gotten better and teams have no reason to respect our passing game.

Ronnie should not be a concern right now. Give him some help and he will do well. I don't see him being a guy that would need to be replaced for the fins to get over the hump.

hindsight's always 20-20. ronnie did not have a spectacular college career a la tomlinson, larry johnson, but the draft was a weak one. the top 5: alex smith, ronnie brown, braylon edwards, cedric benson, cadillac williams so far not exactly future HOF'S. YES GORE IS BETTER, AT LEAST RIGHT NOW, BUT AT The time he was a major medical risk lucky to be drafted as high as he was. Ronnie's good so far not great. But with a better OLine and an offensive coordinator that knows how to run the ball, he might be better.
