First, let me say please read the entire post before flaming me.

I dont start many posts here anymore so this is one of the rare occasions I am going to vent.

I feel our playcalling on offense and our offensive personnel dont match up. At all. Period.

We have 2 power running backs that can wear down most defenses in the NFL. We have WRs who are good hands WR (Booker), your RAC WR (Welker) and then your classic #2 WR (Chambers). Then we have our TE McMichael and an average Oline.

When our RBs BOTH are averaging over 5 ypc and we have already gone for it on 4th down, why do you pass the ball on 3rd and 2 and pretty much lose all chances for us to win the game. After that INT it hit me.... I cant believe I am saying this but if we had Wanny calling our plays, Ricky would have run the ball up the gut. If we didnt get it, we would have gone for it on 4th down like we did a few plays ago. With 2 running plays, chances are we would have gotten 2 yards based on how the game was going.

If you look at the talent we have on offense, we dont need this ridiculous playcalling. We dont need double reverses for -12 yards or a passing call on a 3rd and 2 when you have 2 chances to pick up the first. Our weak link on offense is Gus and our strong link is our power RBs. Need I say more?

Personally I am not at all thrilled with Linehan or Gus at all this entire season. I figured I would wait another game, then another game, then another game til hopefully it all clicked. I figured I would give them the benefit of only playing a few games together and hopefully everything would fall into place.

Now I wasnt serious in the idea or re-hiring Wanny. However I think our offense needs to be more like Pittsburgh. You have a guy at QB who doesnt throw the ball more than 20 times a game. Their offensive playcalling would be perfect for our players. Gus Frerotte needs to take a "Ben Roethlisberger" approach. We just need him NOT to lose the game for us. So far a handful of times this season I feel he has lost the game for us.

Our offensive personnel is a square and our playcalling is a circle. Scott Linehan is that challenger 3 year old where he is trying to get the square piece to go into the circle block and its not fitting and he cant understand why. I hope Minnesota wants to hire Linehan back to be their head coach if the Mike Tice project falls through because I personally think our offensive playcalling is a major weakness of this team.

Linehan belongs in a place like St Louis or Philadelphia where his playcalling would fit that personnel. We need a guy who will give BOTH our RBs 20 carries a game and let them wear down defenses and who will give Gus the opportunity NOT to lose the game. We dont need Gus to win games for us, we need him NOT to lose them. Thats exactly what Pitt has done with Roethlisberger the past few years and they have been successful with 2 power runningbacks.

We have 2 stud power runningbacks in Ricky and Ronnie and the ball should never be taken out of their hands and given to a career backup in Gus.

All the Linehan huggers flame away.

Damn Philter...when I saw you made a thread titled "Re-hire Wanny" I thought you had lost your mind.

It was a good thread...the title will get you flamed though.

Think wanny had better playcalling?
Remember two years ago when we were playing buffalo (I think) and ricky killed buffalo with something like 200 yards, they punted and we were bakced up on the goaline. Instead of rushing Ricky, Wanny threw on each down and we went 3 and out and we had to punt, then Buffalo put the game away.

Who ever would have thought we'd be calling for wanny ball again. The running game IS working! Take a shot down field once in awhile, but lets start playing field position again!

Wanny ruined us like he did to chicago, like he is doing to PITT. This is the first time in PITT football history that they started 1-3 or 1-4 or something like that. All due to wadball.

I am not one to post much, or really complain about the team, I use it as entertainement mostly and try not to get too wrapped up in it but, as a fan I am really wondering why our last couple coaching staffs can't use the players we have and build schemes for them instead of as you aptly say try to put a square peg through a circle or something similar it really is beginning to piss me off, hopefully next week's game which I am attending will be a bit better play calling and we will run it down the patriots throats. I am not sure why our play calling is not in strict favour for the run game, that is where our strengths are and that is where our game plans should be centered around.

If we're going to beat the Falcons, we must play....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wanny ball. Here's why:

1. The Falcons have a terrible run defense but a very good pass defense
2. Frerotte is shaky at best
3. We have 2 monster RB's that can more than shoulder the load
4. We have to win the TOP battle in order for the defense to be fresh enough to keep up w/ Vick and that offense.
5. By running the ball 45-50, we will more than likely force the Falcons to wilt under the South Florida heat in their black jerseys by the 4th quarter.

i won't say "re-hire wanny", but i think a good dose of wanny ball would be necessary now....

Frerotte is obviously more inept than Feeley OR Fiedler, even if Feeley or Fiedler were having a bad day. Frerotte flat-out sucks, and there is absolutely NO reason why he should stay starting. The playcalling for the third straight week was questionable.... Scott needs to realize our QB is Gus effin' Frerotte... not Daunte. we can't be passing on 3rd and 2 when we're averaging over 5 and 6 yards per carry. exercise your strength. save the occassional errant passing for mid-field stuff.... when you're about to tie the game, keep it where you can score.

1) we need to start Sage NOW
2) we need to focus more on running
3) we need to FIX THE DAMN PENALTIES. we went from a first and five to a 3rd and 11..... for crying out loud.

Its already obvious that some people didnt even read my entire post. I tricked them with the title. It is appropriate though because exactly what phinfan2003 posted. Wanny ball wouldnt have lost this game.

Agree completely. And I wasnt serious when I said re-hire Wanny. It was sarcasm and bait.

I will go back and bold two statements for whoever doesnt read the entire post.

I thought I was going to lose my mind when I saw the title of this thread. After reading your thoughts, I totally agree--we need to call plays that are right for the personnel we have on the field.
