I would like to keep Jerry. He improved last year t a little below average, and has improved this year to above average and VG in pass protect. He's only 27, not gonna get a big contract, knows the system, and may be the best overall option for this team next year.

Last year, he was ranked as the #20 RG, and #40 of all guards. He graded out at +3.8 on the pass but -8-8 n the run. He gave up 2 sack, 3 QB hits, and 15 hurries. He wasn't bad but, after last year I would not have wanted to re-sign him with the weight issues and he did not look like the answer.

This year, he is ranked as the #10 RG, and #21 of all guards. He grades out at +6.0 on the pass and -4.0 on the run. He has given up 4 sacks, 3 hits, and 8 hurries, and ranks #3 at RG, #7 of all guards in protecting the QB. This is impressive as he was injured in preseason, returned to practice just 2 weeks before the season, and struggled some in the early games. In the last 5 games, he has only given up 1 sack and 1 hurry, while looking better on the run, and is our best pass blocker (over Pouncey and Cog).

The other thing I consider is the 2014 needs of our team, especially the OL. Clabo, Martin, and McKinnie will all be gone. that leaves us with maybe the Yeatman project and the versatile Garner as back ups. Albert looks to be the only possible FA option but, will cost A LOT. OT may well be our 1st and 2nd picks.

At G, there's Dallas, Watkins, and the guy who started in front f them in Brenner. Maybe one works out but, not betting on more than that. FA looks to be around the same as this year, high priced or a Lance Louis type. This is assuming that Pouncey has no major legal issues.

So, I'm back to wanting to keep John Jerry.

Agree or disagree?

If he is truly improving and still has not hit his ceiling then why not? He is cheap and at least serviceable.

So many holes on this oline. Might have to be stuck with him for another year. Hope he keeps improving.

it would be nice to sign him up to a nice little contract for him based on him getting to a certain weight but afraid there is not enough time for that for him when FA starts.

It is also would be nice if he didnt jump offsides in the red zone.....twice!

I think Brenner may end up being a keeper. You know they will. Keeping Jerry may mean only having to draft one Guard because of Watkins and Dallas.

but so much is unknown to us with these other guys and it would be ideal to steal a stud in the 2nd or 3rd round. Not many stud G's would start right away are often there. They are the John Jerry types who take time to develope.

Drafting a stud G in the first round is questionable with future bookend T's now a huge priority.

so yeah, keep John Jerry if the coaces believe he is in the family.

I like the fact that Jerry has played every snap this year (only one on O), and played 99.7% of snaps last year. Also, pass protect is more important to this team as we passing on 426 snaps, and only 220 on the run.

One more interesting stat. Miller runs much better inside left, and DT runs much better inside right.

Miller behind the RG- 8 carries for 17 yards, middle right- 21 for 42 yds. LG- 16 for 105 yards, middle left- 17 for 99 yds.

DT behind the RG- 9 for 43 yards, middle right- 7 for 31 yds. LG- 12 for 33 yards, middle left- 10 for 30 yds.

From what I've seen since the last off-season is that he did work hard to keep his weight somewhat in check and came into camp at (or very close) to the team's goal for him.

As for resigning him, yes, he should be cheap, the o-line has tons of holes and he is at the very least serviceable and could be better with better players around him...

John Jerry sucks. Nate Garner should have been ahead of him starting in July.

I still would like to have a look at him at RT. As this league continues to be pass dominated, defenses are going to try and load up on pass rushers. Therefore, if not already, very quickly will be gone the days of having your LT being the main pass protector and the RT being more run focused. It's going to be crucial to have strength at pass pro at both Tackles in a LT level kinda way [hope that makes sense]

his pass blocking is above average....

The reason for bringing him back is more under the assumption that the Dolphins are already going to need to replace 3 starters on the line (if not 4) and having a guy like Jerry (and Garner) give the team solid depth....

Jerry is a $1.5 cap hit this year. I'm guessing a contract of 3-4 years in the $8 to $$12M range.

Those penalties had horrible timing after having only one the other 9 games. I wonder if the change to Garner had anything to do with them. Remember the issue with him turning his head before the snap with Pouncey?

like what was said before we maybe forced into resigning him ! i really put him at r tackle in place of clabo as his pass prot is far better than run!

how do these FA grade out at pff ??? some would interest me in fa in 2014
