So it is rumored/reported by Adam Schefter than Ross prefers Joe Philbin and Ireland prefers Mike McCoy. So I gave this thought overnight and here is my "reading between the lines thought".

On Ross favoring Philbin - Philbin will bring an explosive west coast offense, one that Ross covets, I get it. Here is what I think everyone is missing. I believe that Ross is on the Sign Matt Flynn bandwagon and thinks Philbin gives them the best chance and Ross will pay whatever it takes to get him. Could be a great move IMO. Ok, so in summary Ross wants a guy (Flynn) who he feels has had his training wheels taken off for a couple of times and has showed he can be very effective.

On Ireland favoring McCoy - McCoy showed that he can bring a gimmick offense to try and suit a running style QB. IMO it was a terrible offense and if we ran that type I would be very upset. So what does this tell me? I am reading this as Ireland is going to try and mortgage the farm to draft RGIII. I think Ireland is sold on RGIII not only because of talent, but he has connections with Baylor. Maybe Ross thinks Flynn is a safer pick than RGIII or maybe Ross figures signing Flynn would open up the possibility for a playmaker, ala Justin Blackmon to put opposite Marshall?

In Summary - IMO if we make Philbin our next HC, expect a Matt Flynn signing, as long as he will come. Why wouldn't he, we can pretty much guarantee him a starting spot in the offense he already knows. If we make McCoy our next HC expect us to trade up at all cost to draft RGIII and then McCoy will implement a similar offense to what RGIII ran at Baylor.

Maybe I am over analyzing but this is exactly what I am reading between the lines here!
 
Why don't they just decide this over a game of Jacks and soda pop.
 
What particularly concerns me is that an undistinguished position coach, even he's ours, could as a result end up being the compromise they settle on.
 
The only problem with your theory is the part of Ireland moving up to get RG3. Ireland doesn't move up in the first round ... so far. He has in the second and later rounds but I feel he has shown no tendacy to do it in the first, especially in paying whatever price it would take to move up that far. I just don't have any faith he would make that move.
 
Fair points by the OP. If it were any other QB, I'd balk at the idea of super conservative Ireland trading up. But being a Baylor former player and alum, I wouldn't put this one past him.

I just said this in another thread. If this is true, then Boles should be the choice.

Unlike you though I like Todd and think he is not only a very good coach but a strong leader as well.
 
If your the owner and you prefer one coach then what you say goes..

So are you saying he sticks with Matt Moore or brings in Orton since McCoy worked with them? Just because he hasn't traded up in the past doesn't mean anything. Have we truly had the opportunity to trade up for a top notch QB? He thought he had one already in Henne also, so it makes your point a moot point as he didn't feel he had to trade up for a QB!
 
Good in theory, but too many ifs to be realistic IMHO. First if it is Philbin, Ireland has final say - so what if he does not think Flynn is as talented? Further, there are no guarantees that someone (the Browns) out bid the Fins, then what. And what if Flynn wants no part of the Dolphins? Too many ifs.
 
I think if Philbin is hired he would probably try and bring Clements here as the OC, and they would implement a offense that Flynn is already familiar with so it would give him the best chance to win.
