I have to believe that the fact that Coyle is still around is because they're trying to get someone in place that'll last.

There is no other explanation. There is nothing that anyone can say that'll convince me that Coyle should stay. In my mind, the defensive problems are far worse than offense.

I have to agree. The situation is still developing and it appears they were able to get some movement on the O but still working out the D. That's what I hope anyway.

Pat Kirwin yesterday offered a moronic take but had a little point in it regarding Schwartz. Basically Buffalo is still paying him, so Kirwin said the Dolphins just need to make him a guarantee that no matter what happens with the HC he will be guaranteed for the next year. So he would still get his Buffalo money plus a year from Miami. Said no way he would come for 12 games, give up that money and then have no guarantee.

Then he dove straight into the tard by saying, "just give him the head coaching job". Just give it to him? Riiiiight. Because that would totally solve the problem. Kirwin is a moron but the extended deal for Schwartz had a little merit. Still, the new coach...whether it is Campbell or not will want their own staff.

I don't think anyone with a job on another team will jump to Miami for 12 games.
There is no way to guarantee an OC/DC a spot next year, because who knows who the HC will be.

I am having this sinking feeling we will be stuck with Coyle for the rest of the season.

This 100% a fluid situation. Firing Philbin was a warning shot to the entire staff. Get your **** together or you will all be packing by the end of the season if not before. Dan Campbell making it through two regimes says a lot about the guy's character and frankly I am glad they made the guy interim-head coach but even he is fluid at this point. They won't fire the interim-HC but at the end of the year they might replace him.

His incentive to win is his job.

Concur. Good call.

Who was going to join this staff and get fired at the end of the season?? Coyle is still here because no one was coming here to lose 12 more games and get fired so tannenbaum could bring in a new staff the next day.

That's why you really can't give anybody a guarantee for next year. The way all of this should have played out is that the change should have come at the end of last season - I'm sure everyone knows that by now. If you guarantee anybody for next year, you're only guaranteeing yet another half measure and another wasted season with absolutely no direction whatsoever.

If at the end of this season there is a decision to move in a non-Campbell direction, then you have to FINALLY clean the house, 100%, no more keep this guy, get rid of that guy, and wonder why nobody wants to manager or coach your franchise - because if we do that yet again, I guarantee we'll end up with another clueless HC (probably a former oline coach) that is just thankful that one team was dumb/desperate enough to give them a shot.

I don't think anyone wants him here, but our entire ****ty defensive staff is filled with Coyle's cronies. This is easier said than done. Campbell and the team tried to get Schwartz in here, the backup options are much more complicated.

I have a little different take. I think he is being honest, he is still evaluating. He got to see how the coaches and players reacted and now he has 4 days with no players. He can now make a more informed decision. Very smart.

It appears that the dolphins are looking for an unemployed DC that needs a 3-4 month job. Where would you find such a person?
