There normal way a fan looks at free agency is that we look at who the big names on the market will be and we make a wish list and try to figure ways that signing them would fit into our salary cap. This year the Tier 1 Free Agents in my opinions are Albert Haynesworth, Jordan Gross, Julius Peppers, and Nnamdi Asomugha. While all of them would meet a need and upgrade our team, signing them would pay huge dividends against our salary cap. I think the 5 guys we should target are TJ Housmandzadeh, Karlos Dansby, OJ Atogwe, Bart Scott, and Jason Brown. These guys I consider to be Tier 2 players. I am not saying we will sign all 5 b/c that would be like a wet dream that I have that involves Kate Hudson and my bed. At the end of the day I feel Atogwe gets tagged, Dansby resigns with Arizona which leaves TJ. Jason Brown, and Bart Scott.

Houshmandzadeh is the perfect complement to our young receiving core. TJ would also gives us a viable #1 receiver moving Ginn to #2, Bess to the slot, and Camarillo as the best #4 in football. Bart Scott is a guy who i think will be a Dolphin. The Ravens will lock-up Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs and probably tag Jason Brown so they will be broke. Bart Scott is without question an upgrade to Channing Crowder as he is a better tackler, a better hitter, better in coverage, better at rushing the Quarterback, better leader, and he plays with a swagger. So the big names I think we will lock down when it is all said and done is TJ Houshmandzadeh and Bart Scott.

As we did last year in free agency it is important to improve the talent on your roster all together. Players such as Shaun Cody, Nate Washington, and Jim Leonard are guys that can that and won't break your bank.

I think before making a splash in free agency it is important that we lock-up Yeremiah Bell, Andre Goodman, and Vernon Carey. Locking these three up and adding TJ and Bart will come a long way in imporving that foundation that we built last year.

I think the ravens will release Chris McAlister which means a great Corner will be on the market who we should keep an eye on.

Imagine this off-season scenario...

I like bart scott but not sure I would overpay for a 32 year old reciever.

I agree NT we are weak and old. We need to upgrade in the first 3 rounds or FA. Maybe in the 3rd draft Ron Brace, but i like everything else.

agree with everyone we could turn one of those secondary picks into nt

Jim Leonard sucks? What an uneducated statement. Tell the Titans he sucks, tell Chad Pennington he sucks,; I'm sorry but statements like that are just plain dumb. Watch some football and make some sense man. The guy was the unsung hero of a Ravens' defense that owned us

I think Dansby will want to be paid like a 1st tier player. I don't like the fact TJ has always been a #2 and wants to get that last huge contract and become a #1 for the first time. I'm not saying he can't do it but your taking a chance paying him #1 money with never playing that role afterall CJ was the one attracted all the attention.

I cannot believe signing either a Haynesworth or Asomugha could be considered anything but a great move. Haynesworth especially because of our defense and how much he would improve our run defense and LB'er play. Each of them would be well worth 12mil+ they'd be asking for.

J.Brown C I put on the same tier as Haynesworth and Asomugha (not pay wise) because of his overall impact on the run game and with Satele now fighting for the guard spot it improves our depth on the Oline.

I'd rank these guys as #1 Haynesworth #2 Brown #3 Asomugha personally.

We need to re-sign our own in V.Carey OT, Y.Bell SS, C.Crowder ILB, R.Hill and A.Goodman.

I know there's alot of questions with fans regarding Crowder but he's young and has improved every year which I think is as important as any other reason to keep him. He'll also end up being a cheaper option then the FA that are worthy of being his replacement but won't be that great of an improvement over him. Dansby may be much better but he'll be paid 3/4 mil per year more for it.

FA

Haynesworth NT
Brown C
M.Austin WR (only if there's no compensation given up)

and if we can't get Brown then I'd be happy as can be with just Haynesworth and some roster depth type players possibly a starting CB.

1. B.Cushing OLB/ILB - he'd give us alot of versatility at the LB'er positions.
2. L.Delmas FS (option #2 R.Johnson/Moore)
2. J.Gilbert DE (yes that means good bye to VH and Merling to SOLB occasionally)
3. X.Fulton OT
4. J.Brinkley ILB (if he can play right away he gives us flexibility to move Cushing to SOLB)
5. C.Owens CB
7. D.J Clark CB 6'2 4.45 - 40
7. A.Hartline OT
7. who cares?

QB: Penny/Henne/Beck
RB: Brown/Williams/Cobbs
FB: Polite
TE: Fasano/Martin/Haynos
WR: Ginn/Cam/Miles/Bess/London
LT: Long/Fulton
LG: Smiley/Satele
C: Brown/Johnson
RG: Thomas/Alleman
RT: Carey

DE: Langford/Starks
NT: Haynesworth/Ferguson/Solai
DE: Merling/Gilbert
WOLB: Porter/Wake
SOLB: Cushing/Merling/Roth
ILB: Crowder/Akin
ILB: Brinkley/Cushing/Torbor
CB: Allen/J.Allen
CB: Goodman/Owens
SS: Bell
FS: Delmas/Hill

I'm looking forward to a great offseason no matter how it shapes up!!!!!!!

First off.. just look at the positions you are adding here.. although some may be what we think we need, do you really think BP will make those choices?

You really need to ad a NT somewhere in that offseason list. I really think that is our FOs top 3 targeted positions this offseason (esp for the draft)..

and in your draft I do not see our FO investing so many picks in the secondary (even though i think we need it).. i can see them maybe spending a max of 2 picks on some big dbs most likely SSs..

i agree with the resign of vernon carey for sure, but im not to sure on goodman and bell.. i would like to get goodman back on board and think it is necessary, but he is up there in age and prob looking for a long term contract to finish his career, and i dont know if he is worth it...

and t.j and scott are possible.. i personally do not think t.j. is, but BP offered Keyshawn a job last year so maybe nething can happen..

I agree with the majority of this, although i also agree with the other posters about NT being a big need to fill as well. We may be able to get through one more season though with Ferguson starting, then draft Terrence Cody next year.

A team running the 3-4 cannot afford to keep putting off looking at the most important position. Reminds me of our constant waiting at qb. The problem with your theory is that we cannot assure that Cody will be there for us to draft the next year. We need a real NT and there is no time like the present. Ferguson is a stop gap, much like Traylor was. Without him we would be much worse but we need to develop a guy to take his place and Solai really does not seem to be the guy.
