OK guys -- let's come back down to earth. The Jets have high expectations for themselves this year, and they just got routed in their opening game away. Now they're coming home to the fans who expect them to go pretty far this year, and everybody knows a loss in their home opener (especially to us) would start their year on a real downer.

So the intangibles are really against us in this game.

Now let's look at us. Sure we won a great game last week, but our confidence in how good we are is about as shaky as it gets. As fans we could get stuck NEEDING to win this game to make ourselves believe and prove to everyone else that we're a good team. The problem there is that if we lose, we come away wondering how good we are again.

Let's take a season-long perspective here. I think when most people looked at the schedule before the season, they penciled in a "L" at NY this week. Let's not let our need to turn the ship around right away make us think we have a better shot than we do in NY.

I'll settle for a hard-fought loss this week. Emphasis on "hard-fought."

i think it will be a good game, not sure of a win or not....i just get worried about getting too carried away, i mean we know we're still a team that most likely (IMHO) won't make the playoffs...i love this team but am trying to be realistic about the long-term look for this year.

"Getting carried away" is exactly the point. You don't want to set this game up to be the ultimate definition of how good we are just because we need a win to make us more confident in ourselves. Then if we lose, the game means more than it should too, and all of the sudden we're in a position where we're doubting ourselves instead of feeling pretty good about how much better we look.

Saban mentioned not focusing on the score, but your own concerted effort, responsibility and toughness.

the way they looked last week, Untill a team plays better than us I expect us to win.

So if a team plays better than us, then you'll expect us to lose? I don't know if that's what you're saying, but that's what I'm trying to get at here. We don't want our expectations for the whole season to hinge on this one game.

That's what I'd like to see us do as fans too. Focus on how well we play compared to what you expected of us in this game before the season started.

If we play like our last game, and they play like their last game, we will win. No doubt about that. But i don't think they will fumble 7 times again. On the other side i'm confident that we can play the same level, and even higher level, than last game, so i think we will win the next game.

that's a whole lotta ifs but that's what makes the NFL so fun--never know what's going to happen but I'm cautiously optimistic about this game...but just gotta keep it in perspective i guess....lets hope we can keep up the intensity

I will never settle for a loss.. especially after the way we played last Sunday

I am looking for a 10-14 point win, but will settle for a 1-3 point win (If that happens, I will also need to be revived from having to watch such a close game:D ).

I agree with this thread. Everyone here is down playing that the running game did nto play that well, and also how much we struggled until the second half, which by coincidence is when they lost most fo their starting secondary. It was a good win and a great effort by teh defense. However, do not be lulled into thinking we are now a contender. Not saying we aren't either just saying there are 15 games to play and we have a lot to learn about this team.
The Jets are very talented and they are going to be plenty pissed off. It will be nearly impossible to pull out a W there.
My guess is it will be hard fought, but will come down to whick team's psyche holds up. As soon as things go bad for one, then they will probably be like "oh no here we go again".
I say we lose a very close game, but will be proud of how hard we played.

I'm not too concerned with the Jets. Pennington can't get any oomph on the ball to take advantage of the passing game. Our defense is stifling and will come after him all day long.

Of course they always could start Fiedler. We'd be in trouble then! :roflmao:

I know I penciled in a loss one of 8 when doing my pre-season preidctions, but after the opener I think Saban has his players focused and ready to beat the Jets in a nail-bitter.

My prediction was 12-4 before the season started. I don't see us losing one against the jets.
