First off it is very early to tell anything, FA has not even got going and the combine has not even taken place, let alone a possible Jason Taylor trade or draft day trades. But realistically the team is rebuilding, there are a lot of holes to fill and many scenarios that can happen. Parcells and company have a lot of work and believe it or not I think our offense is in better shape.
Second the Fins have a 2nd round pick invested in Beck, a big question mark headed into his 2nd year at the young age of 27 (ha). So to draft Matt Ryan first would be great and excellent, but a waste, I think, when there are other needs to take care of with the 1st over all pick.
Team Offensive Needs: LT LG TE WR
LT- Draft: Jake Long-enough can he or can't he play LT. He can, move Carey to RT and secure this spot.
LG- FA: There are many quality OG in FA, Faneca, Whale, and Jake Scott.
TE- Draft: In the later rounds, remeber McMichael was taken in the 4th
WR- FA/Draft: With the rumors of Keyshawn coming back, or the Fan obsession with Bryant Johnson, or the depth of WR in the Draft, I feel as a rebuilding team the Fins will be fine at creating depth.
Parcells likes to play a 3-4, and I love that defense, but I am one to say you play the scheme best suited to the players you have. Currently the Fins have not traded Jason Taylor, and there is no FA or Draft prospect suitable to play the 3-4 NT. So 4-3 looks better, but I will go by position need as if it were a 3-4 first.
The Defensive Needs: NT MLB CB (SS FS, whether or not Bell and Hill are back from injury or Allen becomes smart all depends how the Fins attack these postions)
NT- Draft: Frank Okam, Red Bryant and Ahtyba Rubin all have the size but later round picks and won't contribute right away.
MLB- FA: Move Crowder inside leave Porter at LOLB, put Taylor at ROLB, acquire Derrick Smith or Calvin Pace (who can play ILB) and also draft a MLB later to coach up.
CB- FA: I'd like to see Trufant, maybe Samuels, or sniff around Philly to see what Sheppard costs
SS- FA: I think Ken Hamlin has a good shot to coming to Miami.
FS- Play Hill, Bell or Allen.
3-4: Put Jason Taylor at RE, Roth at LE, Wright and Holliday as DT. MLB Crowder, LOLB Porter, ROLB can be Pace or Boss Bailey or another FA.
Final Thoughts: This can all go to S%*$ but right now thats what the team is dealt with. A OT can be picked up in FA, either Jordan Gross or Travelle Wharton leaving the Fins to pick Matt Ryan or Glenn Dorsey (he can help). Or Jason Taylor can be trade leaving the Fins taking Chris Long, or they can trade down. But thats what I think...
