Let me begin this by looking at our past......
When we made the playoffs, we played excellent defense, and relied on a powerful running game (Ricky) to keep us in games and occasionally we lost due to Fiedler's interceptions. Now, our defense one can argue is even BETTER than it was when we made the playoffs. Our defensive line is, without question, remarkably better, our linebackers are about average, we lack some in the corner position (which doesnt matter as New England proves every year, scheme and coaching can make up for lack of cornerback talent, IE, TROY BROWN), and in my opinion, our safety position has been upgraded with the recent addition of Lance Schulters and along with Tebucky Jones. Offensively, we gained Booker and Boston to improve our offense over the previous Playoff roster, Ricky and Ronny combined probably are at least AS good as Ricky was alone that year, and our offensive line while talent wise is worse, COACHING, as a whole, is infinitely better this year and will make up for any talent loss and will widen the gap where our talent is better this year than in the playoffs, ie, d-line, safety, receivers, etc. And finally, I say, our division has gotten weaker. The Patriots are weaker, I think even a Patriot fan would admit that. Having JP Losman for the Bills makes their squad tremendously weaker, and the Jets' addition of Jay Fiedler, coupled with Pennington's consistent injuries gives them 4-5 losses right off the top. Add in the loss of defensive lineman to Dallas, a less than stellar draft (first pick being a kicker) and the fact that well, they are the JETS. Dolphins: 10-6. Playoffs.

In todays NFL, EVERY team has a shot at the playoffs. I think that should be our aspiration at the begnining of this season; having said that, I would settle for improvement on both sides of the ball and some sure signs that were headed in the right direction for the future.

We made the playoffs with Lamar Smith, not Ricky. When RW was here, he'd lead the league in rushing, but we'd be out of the playoffs.

I think we need a running game that as a unit produces about 1,500 yards and anywhere from 8-14 TDs. Then, we'll see

EVEN MORE SO. WITH LAMAR SMITH. THANK YOU. Do you at least agree our defense is better now than it was back then?

While I like all the good acquisitions in the off-season, I still am not expecting play-offs. Would it surprise me? No. As far as I'm concerned, getting all the schemes in place, showing improvement across the lines, and getting 8 wins or so, will be good, and will set up serious play-off contention in 2006.

if we can stabilize the QB position and the OL, i don't think it's a long shot that we can get in as a wild card...

i dont think our defense is better now than it was a few years ago. Our best defensive team was 2002-2003 imo (in the modern era)

Think about getting better first, don't waste time looking ahead to the playoffs. There is almost no possibiloty you compete for a playoff spot this year, get better and make good moves next offseason while developing your younger guys this year and you'll be a threat but don't waste time thinking playoffs yet. Allow this team and this Coach to grow and show a little patience.

all you need to be is 8-8 to complete for a playoff spot. There is more than no possibility for Miami to be 8-8

I partly agree, but I think we have a moderate chance for the playoffs. Putting that prediction aside, I just want the season to start.

In the NFC but not in the AFC.

We NEVER made the playoffs with RICKY in the lineup! I stopped reading after that.
