I said this in another thread so forgive me if you've read it but I thought the topic deserved it's own thread because I want to get the feelings of the masses

To those of you saying that winning without pressure, and late game collapses is what's tilting your opinions towards firing Philbin, could it be that we aren't consistent, we can't close out games, we can't beat physical teams because our talent just isn't good enough? I know it's been said that we have playoff level talent BUT I'm sorry, too many times our BEST PLAYERS for whatever reasons, don't show up in critical moments or in big pressure filled games. Where was Cam Wake, Brent Grimes, O. Vernon Reshard Jones, Mile Wallace, L. Miller, R Tannehill, etc... when we needed a play to close out those close games? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. And this isn't just under Philbin this dates back several coaching regimes! I'm not trying to exclude coaching from the equation, because I think coaching does play a part, But I'm starting to think that maybe our so called "BEST PLAYERS" just aren't good enough. I'm looking at new guys like J Landry, and it seems like this kid shows up no matter what the situation is, it looked as if N Moreno was cut from that same fabric and B. Albert as well. I don't think we have enough of those type players. And that's why we're 7-7. Could coaching have won us one or two more games? Maybe, but even if we made the playoffs, I'm thinking with this group of players, we'd be one and done.

So my question is... Do you think the current players on this team, same players but substitute whatever coaching staff you want, would be more than a one game and done playoff team?

Probably not. We dont have playoff level talent on this team. I dont think a change in coaching would change that, in fact it may even may use worse for a year or two. That being said, the current coaching staff has failed too imo.

We're clearly not as talented as most playoff teams...but we still had enough to win 10 games and there were some issues that clearly fell on coaching whether that be late game decisions, poor play execution/calls at critical times or a poor game plan (mostly early in games in the first half of the season) that falls directly on the coaches. You can't say that we didn't let the Packers, Lions and Broncos off the hook. Those 3 wins would have us at 10-4 right now and in the drivers seat for a playoff birth. Regardless of talent those three games fell directly on coaching. We still haven't recovered from the Denver game since they expose our poor run defense and Coyle has yet to fix it.

Before the season Perkins predicted this was an 8-8 team. He said the coordinators looked good, the schemes looked good but he didn't think the talent was there to predict better than 8-8. He was right.

The single biggest problem this team has is lack of talent on offense. The second biggest problem is coaching. I can't ignore the second problem just because the first is more glaring.

Well this franchise has spent years drafting defensive player after defensive player in an effort to keep New England out of the end zone...that dates back to Wannstedt era (or error...however you look at it). They've never once thought to build the offense to outscore New England. As I've said before they've stopped building around the QB (regardless of who it is) since the late 80's when Marino was carrying this team on his back with almost nothing. Could you imagine the numbers Marino would have put up if they had the foresight to replace, Clayton, Duper and Nat Moore?

Even Denver built a team around Tebow with Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, Eddie Royal, Brandon Lloyd, Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno. The light still hasn't come on for this franchise. So concerned with stopping the other team they forget this league is setup for the offenses to score.

While I don't blame coaching on how players play!
I do blame them for how they game plan and play calling in a game! And this is something I am somewhat torn on! While I don't care for Philbins coaching! I have at liked the way the team had looked especially early in the season! I think Hickey has done a good job considering what he started out with and the holes he had to patch! He got what looks like a very good guy who looks like he can play either end well! And he followed that up by getting a nice looking wide receiver that makes good catches and makes even better moves after the catch! And some of his other picks could be diamonds in the coming years! As for the free agent guys nobody could have forseen injuries like that! And for the most part most of the free agent signings were safe signings in that they didnt break the bank! Let Hickey continue to do the job he has earned it so far! Unlike Ireland !

I'm going to play Devils advocate here, it could be argued that the only reason they were in those close games in the first place is because of the game planning and coaching. If you go position by position each of those teams probably have superior talent to where many would think the games shouldn't be close.

NFL is a coaches league. It always has been and always will be. When you have 53 moving parts no amount of talent will be able to carry your team if you have bad coaching.

Ill never forget the day Phillip Wheeler was left on an island with the game on the line against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Ill tell my children's children about that day when I get older.

Miami's problem is not getting its return on investment from the players Ireland brought in.

Wallace was not worth his contract.
Hartline is not worth his contract.
Ellerbe is not worth his contract.
Wheeler is not worth his contract.

And then the slew of players that just don't do anything for you.

Jimmy Wilson
Will Davis
Jamar Taylor
Nate Garner
Colledge
Dallas Thomas
Daniel Thomas
Matt Moore (sorry WV)
Jason Trusnick (when he has to play anything other than special teams

How many players stepped up in the last two weeks when it really mattered? None, nada, zero, zilch. That's not just coaching.

If players need Pappa Joe to "inspire" them to play well to get in the playoffs in big games, we have the wrong players. Not defending the coaches but, if most of the players beat the guy in front of them, the team has a good chance to win. We were not even close the last 2 games.
