Let me start off by saying that my friends who are niners fans are making fun of me. Now that we got that out of the way, here's the reality of the Dolphins that we all love.
Quarterback: Daunte looked decent against Pittsburgh until the end of the game when we need him the most. After that game, it was safe to say that he is a little rusty, threw some picks, a game we probably should not have won anyways, but I was satisfied with his performance. Today, 80 percent of the sacks today were his fault. He was hesitant, indecisive, and did not have one good pass the whole day (the chambers td was an excellent catch, not pass). He played terribly, but joey should not start. You bring in a successful quarterback who is injured, you are going to go through some struggles, especially since he did not play half of last season. Our schedule is easy enough where we can still make the playoffs, but we need to be at least 4-3 going into the bye week. If we lose seven games by week eleven, expect to see joey. The interception at the end of the first half was a HUGE blow HUGE blow to our confidence, and it was just one where you look at daunte and shake your head.
O-line: First week they were terrible, today not so bad. The sacks were given up by daunte's indecisiveness. They need time to gel together, and they will be decent.
Recievers: I love randy and chris, but I find it pathetic that in the time of need, our third string reciever is the one who has to step up and make plays. Granted, Wes is probably our best all-around weapon, but he is not a deep threat, he is a small guy with a big heart, but he is making chris and randy look silly. Someone in our recieving corps needs to step up desperately. Randy has always been the vocal leader, but we need to put up some points. We are desperately missing sammy morris already, and we will continue to miss him because he is a great recieving back.
Running backs: Ronnie has stepped up in these games to make up for our ineptitude. Him and wes are the only bright spots on offense.
D-Line: Great as always.
Linebackers: Not good enough, Zach needs to step up, and I think we are spoiled having him perform so well in the past, but offenses are running away from him. Channing is doing ok, but we are getting run on hardcore. We need some serious help because our linebackers CAN NOT COVER.
Secondary: Thank god for yeremiah bell, but we are seriously missing travis daniels. Our secondary sucks, and if it wasn't for our defensive line and JP losman sucking, they would have put up at least 4 TDs on our secondary. Daniels needs to get back, goodman is not a starter, and we have no depth. Why isn't lance schulters playing for us?
Coaching: Nick Saban has had two major bonehead mistakes; one was not throwing the flag against the steelers and hesitating, that one was understandable, but the real bonehead mistake was in the pittsburgh game on 3rd and two with about six minutes left, and we called a flip play out to ronnie brown. That kind of BS works in college, not in the pros. Ok, he didn't call the play, mularkey did whatever. The play goes through him, and that was a stupid play. In turn they had the 70 yard pass to heath miller.
Special teams: Awesome job on special teams, I have no complaints. Our punter is AWESOME, and the only bad special teams play was the blocked punt which was a mental mistake. The coverage on punts and kicks has been good, and Wes has performed at a level to put his doubters to rest.
We have a good team, but it is suffering because of the quarterback play. We need to understand that culpepper needs time to perform, but we don't have time. We have a one to two-year window until our defense becomes depleted, so we need to perform now. Luckily our opponents going into the bye week are some of the worst in the league, but we underestimated a crappy team today and paid the price. If we don't start putting up some points, we are screwed. We need to be at least 4-3 going into the bye week which means we have to win a divisional game. If we don't, I don't see us going very far, and it will be another year of dreaming of the playoffs for the next year.
