Let's face the facts with all the other optimism there is still on emajor concern. Our O-line is still below average. The penalties are one thing to point but that can be fixed with a few games. What I dont like is that they got no push and they brought down the running game. For all those who say Ronnie Brown played poorly, MAJOR OVERSIGHT. He had nowhere to go.

In reality oline isn't anything as the standard has yet to be set. After one game you can only speculate based on that one game how the unit will do the rest of the season. You can always go by previous seasons, however there has been many cases in the NFL where players have bad seasons and then have good seasons and visa versa.

No push?

I guess 160 Yards on the ground means nuthin and givin up NO sacks is a major oversight.......
Leading the NFL in total offense is an OVERSIGHT also........
Ronnie playin his 1st game has nuthin to do with anything ...

very true, one game is not enough to say that the oline will be bad or an explosive one this year, hopefully saban addressed the penalty issue with them and hope we have fewer penalties this week. maybe by mid week or perhaps after this week we will be able to see what this oline has.

I agree you cant overlook the fact that we didnt give up any sacks. That being said 60 of the 160 on the ground came on the Chambers reverse. We do need to do a better job run blocking but overall I thought the line was FAR better than expected and will only get better with time. Wouldnt it be funy if at the end of the year the o-line was one of our streangths? A long shot I know.....

All the yards count the same no matter how you acquire them.

You're pretty close Ox...

The reality is that the OL played poorly from a run blocking standpoint...The pass protection wasn't nearly as bad (as say last year). However, while the run-blocking needs improvement for us to progress as an offense, you have to figure that Brown will get better at a) hitting the holes (or the LOS if there is no hole) and not juking and jerking in the backfield...in fact, the coaches must have talked to him, because he was much more effective in the second half...and I'd go as far to say that right now Morris might be a better option than Brown. However, if he doesn't play, he won't get better and no doubt, he will get better...and b) having better knowledge of what options he has once he gets the handoff (which holes might be not be there and which will be there). That is a direct result of his missed time. He is not as fluid as I'm sure he will be behind the OL...

Look for improvement this week...Don't fret...RW will be back soon and then the NFL should beware...

More denial. It's hardly a case of wait and see. Our athletes on the OL aren't good enough. They don't have explosive speed or strength. Like Rob Konrad said you need at least two stud linemen and the Dolphins are sitting on zero. There will always be plays stuffed in the backfield with this group. Pass protection is more a game of technique and teamwork so undoubtedly we will improve there. The running game will be mostly whatever Ricky and Ronnie can create on their own. If we have a decent lead late then running lanes magically show up as the opposition wilts and concedes. That means nothing when you start over a week later.

Once we bring in superior players next year the denial will be replaced by wow. Just like many posters here were insistent Larry Chester was a stud and we needed him back, but now he's long forgotten and not missed after the effort Keith Traylor put forth last Sunday.

They sure do count.
They just do not all lead to the same conclusion.

Amen brother. Most of the starters on our O-line are short term fixes until we can find someone better to take their spot. With the exception of Vernon Carey, I don't see any of our O-line to be in Miami's long-term plans.

Excellent post, I for one am hoping Chester gets well and we reacquire him, because we need two plugs not just Traylor and Chester rotated with him keeps a stud on the field at all times. Our OL indeed needs to improve period. We didn't get the max blitz packages from Denvers, we got the blitzes we use to do to team past years, so our OL and RB's handled that. That's good, because it shows improvement from last year. BUT, our running game still hasn't picked up like I'd like it to...Houck said we still have a ways to go for this OL. I was hoping 6 games, he said the whole year.

No they dont! a reverse is a trick play, a misdirection play not the same as blocking the man in front of you and making a hole, we wont be able to use that every game. sure the yards count but I am talking about the effectiveness of the Oline.
