This really is puzzling to me:

Kick the ball:
Find guy who catches the ball:
Tackle guy with the ball:

So what the heck is so hard about this? Is it coaching or talent? Our inability on special teams is going to kill us in the long run. How can professional football players not know how to tackle at this level? I am perplexed!!!:(

have you ever played football on a special teams because it is easy to talk but it is competely diffrent when you get out there

There are plenty of things hard about that. Thats why guys like you and me are not professional football players.

But yeah i hear your cries man. ST was supposed to be the most improved area of our team just based on the fact that Parcells is here and thats what he preaches.

Its basically alot of poor execution. I said it before and you can dig up my posts but i put alot of the blame for our week 1 loss on our ST's. (poor coverage and the illegal procedure is what set up that bogus TD from Farve) Same goes with Houston.

At this point there really are no excuses for these kids. I imagine that the S.T. coaches/players are gonna get chewed out this week. I hope so atleast

What is so different about it? Explain to me. You have to be aware of where the ball is and go to the ball. How is that different from any other position. Sure its better if your kicker can hang the ball long so you have time to get there but I would love to hear your eplaination.

ive played of course at a h.s. level but none the less on a kick coverage unit. It is harder than it looks. They preach staying in your lanes. Basically you can barely even see where the ball carrier is. You need to stick to a "lane" because behind the wall of oncoming blockers it is actually easy especially for a real track star to switch direction and come shooting up feild. Its more tactic, disipline and closing speed than "finding the guy with the ball and getting him down" . If you do that at the wrong time you could over persue or leave a gaping lane wide open..I think we obviously have problems with executing properly, that being said we also have real problems on ST and on Defense wrapping guys and bringing them down...thats another fundemental. Coach S. has been preaching this all year....it seems like some games they bring it and some they dont...its frustrating i know...we should have been taking seattles RBs for losses a lot more.

Are you freakin serious? You need me to explain to you the intricacies of special teams? Ask around on these forums or dig up my old posts i've given serious analysis to alot of different aspects of this team but no way in hell am i going to lose sleep to give you an EXPLANATION because for one reason or another, i dont think you have the capacity to understand.

So i'll just leave it at this - POOR EXECUTION AND MISSED TACKLES.

But its not his job to do that. These guys are professionals and some of these whiffs, penalties and misses on ST have been inexcusible. They will cost us games if they dont improve.

yeah they are intriciys and all that crap. hat i want to know is why we miss tackles .I understand staying in the lane and covering your part of the field hell i even understand outside contain and the kick is the safety valve. I expect good fundamental tackling get low explode throught the man and wrap up.

wow, thats a little agressive... no?

he's just saying that special teams are a VERY big problem on this team and the fact is the rest of the league does it better then us... can we come off the street and do what thewse guys do? No, but we aren't paid to and 31 other teams can do it better then the Fins

ST in general is harder than it looks.

When everyone is moving at high rates of speed it is very difficult to change direction, hence the potential for big plays.

Our biggest problem is wrapping up tackles, but its not our only problem.

We also have a hard time stopping gunners on our own return attempts (This infuriates me as well), leaving us to little or no return yardage.

Yesterday I was at the point where I was yelling for us to just kick the damn ball out of bounds.

1) We need to put our punts in the coffin corner (something not many teams dont do anymore, watch Feagles on the Giants, he's probably one of the best at it.)

2) We need to tackle.

3) We need to end the stupid penalties. (Cost us yet another Ted Ginn return for a TD.)

4) We need to friggin BLOCK gunners so our return guy doesnt have a man in his face before the ball gets to him.

5) Bess needs to learn to let punts go in the endzone instead of fielding them inside the 10.

6) Did I say we need to tackle?

This all sounds like a lot of excuses for poor execution or coaching....there are 31 other teams out there that seem to be able to get it right...must not be that difficult if they can do it. There isn't some kind of magic that makes it more difficult for us...I know its hard...but they are ****ing professionals and that is what they are getting paid for. They need to do their jobs...

special teams are a very odd part of the game from a personnel standpoint. You can't put your best players on for it because they do enough as it is, yet when its failing, what do you do to remedy the problem? The answer is, sadly, grin and bare it. Our overall depth is not very good. We have guys playing special teams that weren't on the team at training camp. It's as simple as that. However, Special teams is also part luck and part focus. Next week i am sure we will see this unit do better because they will be getting killed in practice all week.
