Really, this is how they choose a coach?

None of you were at the interview and the head coach needs to be able to have a positive relationship with the GM and owner. If they think Zimmer is an ***, how can you blame them for eliminating him from the search?

Yeah, this doesn't really bother me all that much, as I wasn't exactly warm to the concept of Zimmer ... But, I am disturbed by Ireland possibly searching for a yes-man.

Let's be logical for a moment. If someone thinks that Ross and Ireland are bad at their jobs, which many do given the current state of the team, why is it so hard to understand people's reaction to this?

Real life business world situation:

Guy always has a history of messing up his reports.
He has not turned in a good one yet and is somehow still employed.
He hands in a report to you.
Before reading it, would you expect it to be good? Or would you assume it's poor like his other work and you'll have to tell him to go fix it?
Which is the most logical expectation given his history?

That is what I mean regarding Ross and Ireland.

I don't buy this analogy because Ross has never hired a coach before and Ireland has never selected one for him. Parcells and Wayne gave us Tony.

i just created a topic about bowles being the head coach choice.

in that [as well as several other threads this week] i mentioned how the only thing a coach needs to have to land this job is for jeff ireland to like him. NOTHING else matters. not experiance, philosophy or x's and o's.

jeff ireland is the guy you have to make happy to get this job. ross is paying the check and riding shotgun on the process, but JEFF IRELAND is the guy who will be making that choice.

ireland wants no part of a guy who could possibly disagree with him. he has worked long and hard to position himself to be the end all of the miami dolphins organization. its his baby. he hires, he fires. he drafts, he picks the free agents. the last thing he wants is someone coming in showing him up with more knowledge of the game and its business.

i thought all along it was weird ireland having any interest in a straight shooter like zim.

reminds me of wanny getting rid of mike westhoff after he pointed up wanny on some procedure in a meeting. wannys ego couldnt take having anyone question anything he said or did. what a great job his buddy keith armstrong did in place of westhoff huh?

and we will see lots of this kind of thing with ireland from here on out. he wants credit for every success and will dish out the excuses and will finger point in every failure. no one IS or ever will be considering todd bowles for a head coaching job. he is a roony rule outlet only. ireland knows this and he is his PERFECT coach!!

were in deep poop with these two clowns. i cringe at the things that are in the works behind the scenes right now.

I think you are dead wrong due to two factors. Ross has declared he will be the guy making the decision (with input from Ireland) in the end and two, Ross wants a high powered offense which is why he has come down to Philbin and Mccoy, guys who coach QB's.

The Ireland speaking on Zimmer is just media crap pushing hate for all you haters. Zimmer really cant bring a high powered O IMO. It was the only thing about him that made me wonder. Which I am sure Ross does as well. Ross knows a high powered O fills the seats.

What exactly makes Philbin or McCoy a yes man?

Anyone who isn't the coach that a particular poster wanted is a yes man and a bad candidate and Jeff Ireland is a doo doo head and Steve Ross is a clueless bumbling idiot and the Dolphins can't do anything right and did you know that no coach has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams?

they explained this a little on ESPN Radio and you guys are taking "blunt and honest" the wrong way. It's not a yes man mentality they want, but they felt Zimmer's personality made it harder for him to be a head coach in the NFL. You have to be somewhat diplomatic in this day and age and the fear is that Zimmer's way of handling things won't translate well.

It's not quite the issue Rex Ryan had, but for a LONG time Rex was not given a chance (even by the Ravens, when you had Rey Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs are BEGGING for him to be a head coach) because Ozzie Newsome didn't feel Rex's personality would really work when trying to run an entire team's operation.

Yeah guys like Billicheck, Cowher, and Gruden were loud and in-your-face, but they knew/know how to operate a team.

Buddy Ryan comes to mind.

What exactly makes Philbin or McCoy a yes man?

cause they signed up to the YES MAN program like Jim Carrey did

It's a damn shame he's not going to be our HC. I would have loved the moment when he walks into a luxury box to meet all our part owners and says straight to their faces that their music is ****ing terrible.

Can Al Davis' ghost please buy the Dolphins off of this clown? I'm tired of Ross, instead of making the impression around the league as being professional and smart, he continues to be a clown. And he's the 2nd wealthiest owner behind Allen. Jesus Christ, someone tell that senile old man to go to hell.

I wish I had enough money to buy the Dolphins because I am extremely confident that I would do a better job than Ross. This FO makes me really sad... Not just Zimmer (wasn't a fan), but how they handle everything, and how much bad media they get. In this offseason, they have probably lost what little respect they had from the players and the fans... I just hope they know what they are doing. (Doubtful)

Ross cares more about sitting up in the booth chatting it up with HAS BEEN celebs than this team, Irland cares more about drafting O-lineman in the first than he does about this team They are both MASSIVE:tubes:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zimmer was the best candidate for this job and they botched this to might as well sart calling us the starfish..
And you know all of this how? Do you have a billion dollars invested in this team? I wish fans would stop falling in love with potential coaches on spec...we have no idea how they interviewed.

And did you know that 8 out of 10 Super Bowl coaches in the history of the league are in their second stint as a HC?

These guys are idiots. Good luck filling seats next season with coaching staff that's gonna be here.
They better do something big in the draft/FA or you can count the fans in attendance next season on one hand.

I'm coming down for an annual visit to see them play regardless of who the coaching staff is. Though who stay away b/c they think the coaches stink will be missing out IMO.
