  • An offensive minded coach- We got the best offensive coordinator in the league. The defense for the last decade has been the strong point of the team. Now our offense could be just as good. Cameron has made Tomlinson into the best offensive player in the NFL. It is also remarkable what Cameron did with Phillip Rivers. Cameron was able to make a first year starter into a Pro Bowler. You also have to imagine that Cameron was a huge reason as to why Gates has become an All-Pro tight end. It will be interesting to see what Cameron can do with our offense.
  • Demoting Mullarky- Mullarky was terrible at calling plays. His questionable play caused us to lose several games last year. It was obvious to see the drop of in production after we lost Linehan. Now that we have Cam Cameron calling the plays, our offense should see the same kind of performance of two years ago.
  • Retaining Dom Capers- Dom Capers is arguably the best defensive coordinator in the league. He flat out knows how to coach the defensive side of the ball. With him staying as the defensive coordinator, we should not be too worried about the defensive side of the ball.
  • The emergence of Ronnie Brown- Ronnie Brown improved greatly over the course of last year. While he is no Tomlinson, it will be interesting to see what Cameron can do with him.
  • Our defense- As a unit, our defense ranked close to the top. We have two all stars in Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. The defense also has a lot of emerging young talent (Crowder and Roth).
  • Giving the GM total control- Randy Mueller is one of the best general managers in the league. Giving him full control of personnel decisions will allow him to transform the lineup while also allowing Cam Cameron to focus on coaching.
  • The return of Ricky Williams- While many Dolphin fans may not like him, Ricky Williams is one of the most talented running backs in the NFL. Two years ago, he helped spark the 6 game winning streak. The return of Ricky Williams will give our offense more firepower.
  • Having a low draft pick- The 9th pick in the draft will put the Dolphins in a good position to get a talented player. Last year Matt Lienart was drafted at the 10th spot. It is likely that a player of his caliber will fall to the 9th pick this year. This draft is filled with talented players- so it will be likely that we will be able to find an early impact player in the first round and later rounds.

*This will be my last post at Finheaven. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have had fun posting here for the last 5 years. Thank you for making this website an enjoyable experience for me.

There's no doubt in my mind that we can be successful next year. It's the NFL, there are 25 teams that have a shot at the post season each and every year and I would like to believe we are in that range of teams. We have a real QB coming back, a new coach (who actully knows what offense is) and the return of Ricky. Nice post man, I agree.

Let's go Fins in 2007 baby! :dolphins:

love that avatar:lol:

Whenever me and my friends play pickup football, me and one of my buddies do that when we score. :D

Both times? :D

As for the original post, all good points. Although I question whether we have the "talent" on offense to match SD. I also don't see a Leinhart type QB in the draft, but if Calvin Johnson fell to us I think it would indicate God is a Dolphin fan.

We can be successful if we do three things:
Draft very smart players who can grasp our systems quickly and start immediately at the NFL level. Okoye,Poluzny,Quinn,Ginn. NOBODY with this,
"intelligence????????", in their scouting report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make trades that get us high first day draft picks, and lots of cap saving cuts to sign our picks and necessary FA's
Get really lucky

Calvin Johnson just seems to be the real deal! I guarantee that he will be an amazing player in the NFL if he stays away from any major injuries or bad situations!

Just thinking about having Calvin Johnson in a Dolphin uniform is enough to make a lot of Dolphin fans drool all over their keyboards. :D

6'5", 230 lbs., 4.4 speed, Michael Jordan-like jumping ability, intelligent, excellent hands ... he's going to be an instant impact player. He'll be a matchup nightmare for defensive coordinators to have to deal with. T.O., Steve Smith, Randy Moss, and Chad Johnson better look out ... there's a new big dog receiver coming to the NFL next year.

Great post. Initially I was very cynical and maybe even pessimistic about the upcoming season. But all the points you made were valid. And I think we may have a legitimate shot at competing for the playoffs in 07.
:dolphins::dolphins::dolphins:GO PHINZ!!!
