I'm over here now
There are elements to pre season that are important. But lets look at why it isnt life or death and why we should not stress unless there is an injury.

One Reason:

1. The Score - The score in preseason is irrelevant. Who wins or loses does not get you any closer to the playoffs.

What do you guys have. I know that it wont but maybe this will stop some crazy knee jerk reasctions on this board that is soooooo ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont think the majority of poster even mention the score. More the secondary problem.

Agreed the score in pre-season is not important, but when you have season tickets and you go to the game, you still want to see your team win though.

The problem with most people here is that they don't realize the preseason is largely a competition for backup spots and an opportunity to build chemistry among coordinators and first-string teams. People complaining about Mularkey's play-calling, for example, don't get that he's calling vanilla plays on purpose--these games don't matter, so why delve deep into the playbook? At the same time, those vanilla plays help the first-string teams build some chemistry and get on the same page.

Preseason games are glorified practices. That's all.

Really? I know that, i was just listing one of many reasons why pre season is not that vital.

Since you bring up the secondary then here goes with another reason why pre season is not that serious:

Just because our fourth stringers get torched, doesnt mean that will be routine starting 9/7. True, one or two of those guys will see games and they may be a liabilty but they will not be in the game as a whole and that liability is not as big.

Good Point: Play calling

Play calling is not the same as the season. THe play book isnt even opened until opening day.

Thanks for that point

Pre-season does matter very much so. Just ask guys like Welker, Barnes, etc. Alot of players get the oppertunity to make or break their career in the pre-season.

You are just supporting what everyone is saying. Score is not important. Evaluation of how players play in real game situations(which was your point) and building chemistry are more important in preseason. However it is still only considered practice or a glorified training camp.

I did mention that there are elements of pre season that are important. I wanted to focus on why pre season is not a time to be worried about your team.

Oh, the preseason is the best part of the year!

...if you're a fan of a crappy team. Your opponents don't care if they lose, your coach is insecure, and you may very well win as many games in the preseason as you do all year. For a few weeks, you can dellude yourselves into thinking you may make the playoffs.

The thing that gets me is that this happens EVERY SINGLE PRESEASON. A majority of people always complain about this and that. It never gets our board anywhere except in a mess.

I know we're here to talk Dolphins Football and thats fine. But people need to realize that Preseason = Televised Scrimmages. Guys on the field are competing to be on our tem, even as scout team guys.

Nobody is perfect. All teams need work. Realize that we need time to gel as do all the other teams in the league. For the teams who score 40 pts in preseason does that mean it will translate into the regular season? It might, but it doesnt matter b/c these games don't count.

God I can't wait until Sept 7, at least if we stink then it'll count

I agree and disagree with some of the posters. Preseason is important in terms of evaluating young and newly aquired talent and building a team chemistry. The only thing that is not important is the final score. Hence, I think we were more impressive against Jacksonville (our 1st team) then we were against Tampa Bay (our 1st team), although we lost to JAX and beat TB. The score is irrelevant, stats are irrelevant. Perhaps the most important thing is staying healthy and avoiding injuries. While I think preseason should be lessened a game or two (mainly because of injuries). So while it doesn't matter if a Jason Taylor or an LT (Tomlinson) misses a preseason game or two, it does matter to a certain extent. And I agree with anymore whom says the score is irrelevant. Again, like I said... I thought we did better our first game against JAX, although Culpepper did get a lot more playing time against TB and finished up strong he struggled in the beginning and you can't even really evalute him from only playing 6 plays against Jacksonville. Just my opinion.

Just so long as we make it through without any major injuries I will be happy. I don't really watch because the outcomes don't matter and I don't care about position battles to the point where I will watch the game closely enough to see who deserves a spot or not. Let the coaches worry about that and I will enjoy the regular season when it starts.

Bull its our 2nd stringer getting burned. Which is important with injury and nickle and dime packages that come in those guys are constantly comming in. So ya it is a concern and it is serious.
