I think it's obvious to most fans out there that our 3-4 defense needs an overhaul up the middle if we hope to move to the next level.

NT: Ferguson is good, but he's on his way out. Solai did not prove he could handle the job full time.

MLB: I think the coaching staff now has a good idea of what they have in Crowder and Ayodele. Did their play suffer without Ferguson's presence? Sure, but that doesn't automatically excuse the failure to consistently take proper angles, shed blocks, and carryout coverage assignments. If I could, I would replace both these guys this year.

I'm asking the fans that watched the games this year. How do you think the braintrust will go about this rebuild?

We got whooped over the top in a year when we spent ridiculous money and draft picks to improve the secondary. We face two failures. First, failure to have the right personel in the secondary. Second, failure to spend money wisely. Now we are stuck. Now we have to boost our front seven to disguise our secondary failures.

There are only two ways to do it: draft and FA. It looks like it's gonna be draft.

Keep Crowder and ask one of Ayodele or Torbor to restructure their contracts as a back-up. If they won't, cut them both. Go draft a MLB (unfortunately McClain will be gone by the time we pick) in the 1st or 2nd. I say not to look in FA for a MLB b/c I would rather go get Wilfork and a Free Safety that can actually play the position in FA. That's my focus, hopefully we can make getting Wilfork happen.

This regime has showed a trait of drafting positions in pairs. First draft was two DE's. Second draft was two CB's and two WR's.

I believe they will draft pairs again in the first 5 rounds. My feeling is two ILB's and two NT's.

I did notice in the last few games of 09, we saw alot of Quinton Moses. Could he be part of the plan for 2010, along with Cam Wake?............we'll see.

I think if the right NT is there at #12 then Miami grabs him. When Ferg went out our run defense went right down the drain. We need a #1 WR, but we need a NT and ILB more.

I think this is a great point and to help get our defense back to where it needs to be we have to be solid up the middle. I know there's all this talk about getting a top notch receiver is our first priority, but i honest dont think Parcells goes that route. I think he takes the best NT/ILB at 12 that he loves the most and then goes vica-versa in round 2. And then i also completely agree with MD20 that this regime has shown a tendency to draft in pairs and i think they definitely take another ILB a lil later in the draft and possibly another NT too (only if Ferguson doesnt get resigned in my opinion).

Wilfork is looking for a multi-year deal with a team and I'm not sure NE is going to give him one now that it looks like they are going to have to do some rebuilding. If we can't get him, we are going to have to find someone who can stop the run like him, Haynesworth or Pat Williams. If we can't get one in F/A, then we must find one in the draft. Trying to patch the NT position with guys that don't truly fit is not working. Once we get that fixed, then move on to the ILB position. Then back to the FS spot.

Soliai will be back next year stronger, faster, and ready to do work

I believe that the NT position will be primary focus in free agency. There are suppose to be a few out there this year and this staff just cannot gamble on that position in the draft. Of course that being said corner back was in the same situation last year and that is just what they did becasue they do not like to pay big money for free agents. Still I say fill your hole in free agency get a Wilkford if he is available bust the bank and then fill your talent in the draft.
In terms of the draft in the top 12 we will go one of 4 ways NT, LB, RB and WR. I just do not see the safty position as one you fill with a first round pick in the top 12.
It looks like the 2 top NT will be gone as well as the LB so that leaves us with the RB/ WR and if the RB is that talented as they say go for the guy.
We should have rotated our LB corp much more this year IMO we were loaded with linebackers but we played the old veterans which wore out down the stretch and in the 4th qtr. The 4 Qtr is when you bring those guys in fresh and on 3rd down.
Anyway I see WR like NT except we will pick up a veteran WR much cheaper than the NT.

In terms of LB IMO there is a big difference in the OLB and ILB positions. ILB normally are valued less the the OLB so that guy from Alabama might just fall more than many think

ILBs who can make plays at the NFL level (stand outs) are very hard to find so that may bring ROs value up a few notches
