I don't know who all gets CBS Sports Radio, but Brian Hartline was a guest this morning on TBD in the AM (Hosted by Tiki Barber, Brandon Tierney, and Dana Jacobson). CBS Sports puts their stuff online later in the day, but here's a recap of what was said.

Asked about the Michigan State/Ohio State Game Was asleep so he didn't see the whole game, said it seemed close. Silver lining for him is he gets to go see them play in the Orange Bowl at Sunlife.

Asked about last play Thought process was "Tackle him, okay guys make the tackle, TACKLE HIM!!!" When he heard somebody say Antonio Brown stepped out so he ran down the sideline saying "Yeah he stepped out" and sure enough he did.

Tiki and Brandon asked about Bullygate saying it went away and asked Hartline how team dealt with distraction Never was a distraction as pretty much everything happened in private away from the team. Hardest part was just replacing 2 starters. Otherwise, he felt the biggest thing was as more information came out and people realized that this wasn't a locker room problem they realized there wasn't a story to be had.

Asked about finishing season with 3 Division Games Having 3 division games helps team stay focused if they are to make a playoff run. Also if we are to make a playoff run we'll be on the road for every game so having 4 out of the last 5 games being on the road is good preparation.

Asked about Charles Clay Personally always felt that Charles Clay would be an asset he just needed to learn the playbook and get more consistent because he was such a matchup nigthmare. Happy for Clay's success because he's a humble guy who works hard.

ASked about defenders going low Unfortunate that injuries like Gronk and Keller happened, but he can't get mad at defenders because the NFL is so inconsistent on dealing with fines. Said he's been on the sidelines when a call goes our way for an illegal hit and the team goes "wow we got lucky" and also mentioned how we've been hurt by fouls that were illegal hits. Also mentioned how the fines aren't reviewed if a penalty is called. Most NFL players don't come from money and aren't financially responsible so even making millions a $15k fine is a lot for them. Defenders go low because that's the only place they know they can hit without getting fined and he understands it.

Surprisingly no Tannehill questions, but Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney both praised Hartline for putting thought into his answers and having good insight. Tiki also mentioned how he figured Bullygate would go away cause things like that happen all the time in the locker room and felt it was dumb for the word Bullying to be linked with the situation.

Interview should be up on CBS Sports.com later in the day

I agree with Tiki on something??? Not sure how I feel about that.

Hartline is always good in an interview and I definitely see him in the media when his playing days are over...

Thanks chambers, good stuff. Hartline is the man, he has always been a favorite of mine.

I remember after that last play, seeing hartline running out celebrating, I knew it was over.

Interesting comment on Clay "learning the playbook". Looks like he definitely has it down and is playing without thinking. The Fins could be a matchup nightmare if they get a seem threat TE. Anyone know when Clay's contract is up (end of next year possibly)? He's another one they'll have to resign.

Hartline seems like a good team leader and should be even more so in coming years.

About learning the playbook, honestly I think most of football is mental. If you're prepared, and you're practiced, and you put in the work, eventually you get enough experience on the field where you stop thinking and start playing. Until you get to that point I don't think any player is that good. It certainly explains some of Clay's earlier struggles. And it also explains why too much roster turnover, or too many FA's doesn't equate to wins. Guys need to understand their assignments, learn what the guy next to him is going to do, and anticipate your opponent and learn their tendencies.

Good post, I didn't see the interview and I appreciate the summary and concise quotes.

That was the reason he didn't get on the field much last year. He had trouble grasping the playbook and concepts they wanted him to learn. Same thing was said of Egnew. Obviously the more reps Clay gets the better he's getting. Carolina may have been the first team this year to actually scheme against Clay and they were effective. I suspect the Patriots will do the same.

Apparently a locker room void of 'leaders', has a leader.

His consistent play and the ability to deal with the media, are showing the true leadership qualities of this young man.

I don't think Clay had a problem with the PLAYBOOK I think they had a problem with where they wanted to play him. When Fasano , Bush, Miller, and Thomas being the go to guys at their position last year where did he fit in because he plays all of those positions. When Keller went down Clay was the TE period. EGNO was not a threat he finally had a spot to lockdown instead of fit in. We still use him at FB from time to time.

He's a more athletic Keith Byars in my humble opinion. This team would be wise to still get a seam threat TE in the offseason.

Where is Egnew's blazing speed they raved about? I know they have been keeping him to block more than anything, but I thought that was why they drafted him? He was suppose to be the guy that ran those seam routes.
