The question is no longer whether the Boston Red Sox can find a general manager to replace Theo Epstein.

It’s whether they need to.

Without a baseball boss since Epstein resigned on Halloween, the Red Sox finished up a major trade with the Florida Marlins on Thanksgiving, acquiring right-hander Josh Beckett, third baseman Mike Lowell and reliever Guillermo Mota for four prospects.

Hey why not? The GM position is meaningless for teams like the Red Sox anyway because the Higher ups in the Front Office make all the moves anyway. If anything Jed Lourie (spelling?) will get the job. He was one of the guys that worked for Theo and also was apparently a big part of the Beckett/Lowell/Mota deal.

Let's put it this way, I'm not worried about getting a GM anymore.

You still need one guy that other teams know they can call up if they want to make a deal, or for agents to set up correspondence with. Don't want to miss a deadline for a player because you don't have one person to take care of business.

I agree with you there, that's why I think the Sox will make that Jed Lourie guy their GM.
